About Lavender Quartz

First impressions review Also, don't look at my playtime because I'm still aren't fluent at Japanese and spend some of it checking dictionaries here and there. ------------------ Lavender Quarts is a curious project that feels precisely what Tom Clancy would write in 2025 AD if he happened to be a huge maho-shoujo yuri fan. The game tells a story of Ikonu, a girl who fled her home village on the border right before war broke, leaving her family behind. Striving to get back to her family, Ikonu, being a talented hacker and having resistance to the mysterious "wand users" magic (I did tell "maho shoujo", didn't I?) begins cooperating with Cirsium, a woman proficient in martial arts, who's an agent of a certain government organ, interested in seizing a certain one of aforementioned "wand users". Despite the gritty artstyle, moody dark ambient with no music tracks whatsoever, and setting, obviously inspired by Eastern Europe (the backgrounds are too tidy and look way too civilized to be inspired by slavic post-soviet holes, I'd say it's more on Estonia/Latvia/Eastern Poland side with some bits of Asia, like using naan instead of bread), so far the game doesn't feel really oppressing,…6 found this helpful

A short but polished experience. Main highlight - probably the visuals, but it's a well-directed game overall. LM7's elaborate background and sprite works do an incredible job at fleshing out the post-Soviet inspired settings, and I can appreciate that the hyperrealistic monochrome art style makes for a compelling change from the visual novel norm. Some stylistic touches were also brilliant, for instance - splitting the screen into a 3-pane layout - or layering dynamic 3D elements onto traditionally 2D only backgrounds, and in doing so builds realism and intrigue in a creative way. The minimalist UI design and font options are also tastefully consistent with the overall themes, though I preferred Serif over the default font. Writing-wise, the pacing is great, foreshadowing was well-executed, no excessive info-dumps symptomatic of strained efforts at world-building. Audio-wise, the ambience is great, the soundtracks complement the scenarios well. And I really liked the unique audio feedback when advancing texts and opening backlog, it felt typewriter-esque. It's a relatively short read but worth the price imo. Would buy a sequel if it ever releases.1 found this helpful
