Leaf's Odyssey is an okay puzzle game. I'm glad someone made a DROD-inspired game, but I wasn't impressed. Aesthetics: I really didn't like the aesthetics, and personally preferred DROD's aesthetics by a very large margin. Level progression: I really really disliked that all puzzles were mandatory. The game may be map-based, but progression is essentially fully linear; if you get stuck for good at a level, that's it, unless you're willing to look up the solution. The initially open map becomes claustrophobic very quickly; despite a design full of keys and locked doors, the dev didn't make a single puzzle optional (at least until one reaches the green keys). What's up with that?_? I ended up looking up a *lot* of the puzzles here, particularly at the end. Either due to getting stuck, or due to eventually getting outright exhausted with the game. In addition, in contrast to DROD, this game is pure puzzling, with zero breathers. DROD's story wasn't necessarily great, but it certainly had the right idea to add narrative breathers in between the puzzles. Level design: The objectives & philosophie…2 found this helpful
Very tightly designed puzzle game - just about every puzzle has an interesting idea.
Enjoyable puzzle game
The highest compliment I can give this game is that several times it it left me raging, asking "how the hell am I supposed to do that?" and every time, right before I broke down and looked up a solution, I said to myself "wait a second, what if...". I can't guarantee everyone will have that experience but for me, this game is just the right level of frustratingly hard but ultimately manageable. works a surprising amount of depth out of a handful of relatively simple mechanics, which are combined in ways that force you to re-think your assumptions. A must play for fans of tile-based puzzlers. Has clear inspiration from DROD but being confined to orthogonal movement really makes it feel very different. Probably one of the most satisfying puzzlers I've played, the difficulty curve is very well tuned. For me there were only a handful of true stumpers, and as said I never needed hints. There were a few puzzles where the amount of movement combinations gets out of hand, but the very generous undo function means you never need to worry too much about timing things exactly. Love how the game shows you your clear time for each screen after you complete it.
Well designed and difficult but fair puzzles. Works great on steam deck.
My first ever drod-like. Absolutely fantastic! Very concise puzzles. Great mechanics, without over-complexity. Tough but fair. Lovely theming, though a tiny intro or story would have been nice. I'm also a sucker for steam achievements so I can track progress. Would love to see more of this world!
