About Super Orbital Mega Drift II

The classic shoot 'em up franchise expands !

Fight your way through 5 levels of deadly ships and bosses to get your revenge on the Empire. Colorful pixel art and catchy soundtrack, easy controls but hard game overall, SOMD2 makes use of all of the tropes of the arcade genre.

The game features 4 achievements, an in game leaderboard that displays the 5 best speedrunners worldwide, and 3 characters to best suit your skill level.

As a one person team, I'd love your feedback here on Steam or on the Discord. Come say hi !

✦ AI summary

Players have mixed opinions on this horizontal shoot-em-up, with some praising its pixel art, music, and addictive gameplay loop that encourages speedrunning attempts, while others criticize poor hit detection, weak visuals, and limited bomb mechanics that feel outdated. Recent updates adding difficulty options and slower backgrounds have improved the experience for some, though audio volume remains a persistent issue. Overall, it's viewed as an average entry in the genre that offers decent value as a free-to-play title, with appeal strongest to series enthusiasts willing to overlook its rough

Really great Shmup. Strong pixel art, great music, fun gameplay and short enough you wanna try-hard speedrun to top the leaderboard.

"Super Orbital Mega Drift II" is an extraordinarily weak 2D retro pixel side scrolling shoot 'em up/bullet hell game, and we come to a fascinating era in bad games when we really can ask "Was this whole thing AI generated?" I don't know, but one thing I can say is that this looks and plays just as badly as something that could have been. I wonder why it was a complete failure? What do you do in the game? It's a shoot 'em up. There's also a bit of upgrading you can do on your ship, but the game is so bad it's not worth it. This features really godawful pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks much worse than most other games because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded despite the bad graphics, not because of them. On the matter of pricing and value for gamers, most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's often nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or …

It's a fairly straight forward horizontal shoot-em-up. Perhaps it's my aging eyes and slowing reflexes, but it does seem that hit detection is occasionally off. Every time this has been the case, it was to my advantage though (i.e. projectiles I was certain I was hit by didn't register). It's a challenging game with a fair amount of enemy variety. Fairly average for the genre overall but given it's free, it's worth checking out.

EDIT; I now change this to recommended. The new update let me choose slow background & easier difficulty. This game is now enjoyable. Although i wish more bombs would be preferable, or just make excuse for it, like a combo multiplier which will reward delivery of fresh bombs once we get certain threshold. Another idea would be the grazing mechanic like in other shoot'em up. Low volume of bombs still perplexed me in this era, it's not like u asking the player for more quarter in an arcade machine right? Let the player have the fun trying our best to stay alive & be rewarded doing it. Sound still have issues though, what's up with it? It exist but can barely be heard, very low volume. Good job in the update, keep it up. older review; I felt physically sick playing this. The background scroll too fast, it's nauseating. Enemy bullet is same speed as the ours, which makes the game felt like fighting game than a shooter game. No audio for the shooting which is lame, no audio for explosion either, none. Felt like shooting at paper plane. I do feel the intensity on the shooting gameplay but it wasn't fun i was having, more like a flight response. Good effort but this is not a good game.
