Lloyd the Monkey: Remastered is a really charming old school platformer, and I liked how much personality it has despite being a fairly compact adventure. I play as Lloyd Zaru, a monkey swordsman whose world is thrown into chaos when a mysterious girl falls from the sky. The setting mixes nature, technology, fantasy and science fiction in a way that feels strange but surprisingly cohesive. The platforming is the main focus, and I enjoyed how much movement is involved in getting through the environments. Running, jumping and fighting all work together, while the side scrolling structure keeps the adventure moving at a steady pace. Lloyd also feels like a proper action hero rather than just a character who happens to be in a platformer, so the combat gives the levels a little more energy. The remastered version is especially interesting because it rebuilds the original game from the ground up. I liked the effort put into making the world look more modern while keeping the old school platforming identity. The environments have a colorful feel, and the mixture of jungle locations with futuristic technology gives the game an unusual visual identity. The story is another part I enjoye…

This game has a lot of passion behind it as I can feel it with the story. However there are parts of the game such as the controls where any direction I moved it kept going for a second, as well just having to restart from the beginning if I lost all my lives. I did enjoy it in the end and even streamed each game, many laughs and screams of rage. It would be nice to see the game polished up with the controls. Also to win you just got to spam attack and it was great!!

If this is what the remastered version looks like, I can’t even begin to imagine what the original looks like.

Managed to finish the game, very good and creative. I am sure it will be seen as a masterpiece in a decade or two :) 10/10!!!
