Lobby Loitering

This was a surprisingly refreshing trip. While the game mechanics are very straightforward and the gameplay linear, I found the world-skipping captivating and the plot very original and entertaining. The "closed door" trope ruins the illusion of choice, but it wasn't bad enough to bother me, since there were enough hidden jokes and eastereggs (f.e. the rock lobster singer) that make world-exploring worthwhile. I actually found the IA music quite good and very fitting for the setting. Good background music for a tumble down the rabbit hole. A+

Lobby Loitering is a short exploration game set in various hotels across different dimensions. There is good variation in the tone and style of each world. Each world has its own stories to see, and there is some very interesting writing that hints at bigger plots going on in each world. You do not get to see most of them to their conclusion, but it really helps the worlds feel like actual full dimensions. The game has a lot of fun characters to meet. It also explores a lot of different emotions: loneliness, horror, happiness, etc. I definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys going around strange settings.

"Lobby Loitering" is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. It's worth noting there's bespoke assets used in this RPG Maker garbage, and we can tell that because they look considerably worse than the stock assets that RPG Maker asset flippers like to flip. Notably, the "developer" couldn't work out how to use RPG Maker to make a JRPG (the only thing it can do, and it's terrible at it). Instead, we have a badly made 2D top down narrative/visual novel heavy "adventure" game backed with an AI slop soundtrack. Yeah that was good. Little disappointed with AI generated music, but I understand. Overall good time and clearly a passion project.

Short, interesting game. You mostly explore and solve some people's problems for them. In one of the worlds, someone occasionally chases you. Marcel is a fairly nice guy, sometimes he comforts people, even when he would be in his right to be mad at them.
