About Lift/Shift

Description:

Armed with a specialized camera, you must document the transformations of objects across multiple floors of an anomalous building.Be careful: any object can shift between realities, and making correct photos is the only way to stabilize the environment. Features:

  • Increasing complexity with each floor

Fun, short free game. I'd give it a shot. You can stream it to someone aswell and they can cooperate with you to solve the puzzles.

"Lift/Shift" is a "me too" in the rather fringe but emerging format of amateur (often asset flipped) first person "Spot the differences" games. The idea with these games is that you run through an area, then you run through a second time but some things are slightly different so you have to identify what changed. Yeah... it's a concept that gets old fast. This is a poor copycat of better attempts at making this kind of game, and also it should be noted none of them have actually been successful on Steam Direct... it's just not that great of an idea from the perspective of gamers. But developers think it's a great idea, nobody knows why. I'm not sure if this is an asset flip, but it's one of those cases where the assets just look much better than the rest of the quality of the game... a glaring inconsistency.  There's no evidence, but as always, the biggest problem with asset flips besides the plagiarism is the deplorably low quality of the other aspects of the game, and even if the game assets are genuinely created for the game, the quality of the rest of the game is indistinguishable from that of asset flips. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. This is "free" enough (no…

Experimental game from small indie dev. Expect rough edges, but overall solid 1-2 hour gameplay experience. And hey, it's free, what's more to ask for?

Lift/Shift is an enjoyable, relatively short, and free anomaly-spotting game which, given that it only has two small rooms and an outer area to check for anomalies, is surprisingly tricky (or, at least, it was for me - I don't usually play anomaly games). Each game run consists of a number of levels - the first is to see and remember the "base" scene (which changes randomly from game to game), followed by successive levels in each of which there are three anomalies to find and photograph. A level is won by finding three anomalies with at most one mistake, or lost if two mistakes are made. The game ends when either five levels have been won with no losses (best ending), three levels have been lost (bad ending), or four levels have been won with only one loss (good ending) - each ending gives an achievement. I thought that the game was well implemented, and I'm glad that I played it. Note that there is a bug with one particular anomaly - see the helpful guide for details of overcoming it.
