Lift/Shift

Fun, short free game. I'd give it a shot. You can stream it to someone aswell and they can cooperate with you to solve the puzzles.

Lift/Shift is a really interesting little horror puzzle game, and I liked how quickly it gave me a reason to pay attention to everything around me. I play as a research operative investigating a strange apartment where objects keep shifting between different realities. Instead of simply looking for keys or solving traditional puzzles, I have to use a special camera to document the changes and stabilize the environment. The camera mechanic is easily my favorite part. I have to observe objects carefully and work out which version of reality I am currently looking at before taking the correct photograph. I liked this because it makes me actively inspect the rooms rather than just walking toward obvious objectives. Making a mistake can destabilize the environment, which adds a nice bit of pressure to what would otherwise be a fairly relaxed puzzle game. The apartment itself becomes increasingly strange as I move through it. Ordinary objects can change in subtle ways, and I enjoyed trying to spot exactly what had shifted. "Lift/Shift" is a "me too" in the rather fringe but emerging format of amateur (often asset flipped) first person "Spot the differences" games. The idea with these games is that you run through an area, then you run through a second time but some things are slightly different so you have to identify what changed. Yeah... it's a concept that gets old fast. This is a poor copycat of better attempts at making this kind of game, and also it should be noted none of them have actually been successful on Steam Direct... it's just not that great of an idea from the perspective of gamers. But developers think it's a great idea, nobody knows why. I'm not sure if this is an asset flip, but it's one of those cases where the assets just look much better than the rest of the quality of the game... a glaring inconsistency.  There's no evidence, but as always, the biggest problem with asset flips besides the plagiarism is the deplorably low quality of the other aspects of the game, and even if the game assets are genuinely created for the game, the quality of the rest of the game is indistinguishable from that of asset flips. Experimental game from small indie dev. Expect rough edges, but overall solid 1-2 hour gameplay experience. And hey, it's free, what's more to ask for?
