About Loco-Sort

Loco-Sort is a puzzle-solving indie game, set in the railroads of the 1880s America. You are the unsung hero of the railroads, the yard engineer, that has the important goal of assembling trains.

Across 30 challenging levels spanning the wide variety of America's greatest landscapes: from the Grand Canyon to the Rocky Mountains, from Monument Valley to the Florida Keys. Play, during the railroads golden age, through forests, deserts, lakes, swamps, frontier towns and much more!

You control a small locomotive with the goal of coupling several railroad cars to a big locomotive across a maze of rail tracks and switches. Each car is numbered, and you have to couple them in ascending order: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. There are also secondary goals, like parking cars in a workshop or loading/unloading them in a factory or mine.

The challenge is to accomplish all your goals under a certain amount of time. It may vary from a few minutes to 15 minutes. In the very last minute, you have a chance to get some extra time.

But there is a lot more: get new locomotives, unlock paint jobs for them, upgrade their power and speed. While playing, use goodies that give special powers, turn the turntable around, light the locomotive's lantern to see into the darkness and even blow her steam whistle until your heart's content.

Are you ready to be the hero?

This indie gem, takes you back to the golden age of American railroads in the 1880s. It’s not just a train game; it’s a brain-teasing puzzle experience wrapped in charming diorama-style visuals and set to a toe-tapping country-western soundtrack. It had me shouting, “All aboard!” faster than I thought possible.
About This Game

Storyline
Loco-Sort doesn’t drown you in storylines or dramatic cutscenes. Instead, it offers a simple but satisfying premise: you’re the unsung hero of the rail yard, tasked with assembling trains by sorting numbered railroad cars in ascending order. Set against the backdrop of iconic American landscapes like the Grand Canyon, Rocky Mountains, and even the Florida Keys, the game’s setting does a great job of immersing you in the era of steam engines and frontier towns. Think of it as history class meets lo…

Although there might be many casual train-based puzzle games around, Loco-Sort doesnt fall into that crowd though, as it's bigger and better in every direction. Firstly, there's a lot of game here with many modifiers and tweaks to be made such as multiple train types to be used once earned, progression of your company for profit and in-level perks. 30 long levels of increasing complexity and the puzzles can be very tricky - borderline devious! - even from the start (you will definitely need to view the tutorial) If you like a challenge, this will fit the bill. The stand-out feature though is the production values, and it is amazing to see that this game was made by one person. The look and feel are delicious, graphics really impressive for a game in this category, smooth cameras and performance - overall it feels like a delightful experience to look at and play. Is the price point a bit high? It might be if the game wasn't so well produced and full of content. Expect to get at least 20 hours of fun out of this, double that if you want to chase perfect scores and achievements. But I think it's a fair price for all the love and effort that has evidently gone into it. Maybe it…

I'm not a fan of trains or 1880s America and puzzle games are not my favourite genre. Yet Loco Sort managed to captivate me. Its level design, which involves sorting wagons using very limited rail movement, is fantastic and truly satisfying once you get the hang of it. Beyond that, it has a unique charm, because its elements such as graphics, music, interface and animations have a rawness totally congruent with its theme. I've played for just over two hours and only got through the first 4 levels out of 30, so there's plenty of content to spare. In short, this game is quite better than it looks at first. I recommend it.

There have been other switching puzzle games before, but none that have the atmosphere, charm, and the fun that Loco-Sort has to offer. The fact that there's a campaign that actually follows a narrative adds a lot to the experience, and makes progress that much more rewarding as the game unfolds. Also, the design of each level shows a lot of attention detail, particularly little touches that set the mood for the puzzle you're about to complete. Even the main menu screen is creatively designed, with the player essentially exploring each room of this little railroad depot, and looking around to reveal information. Overall, 10/10 experience, and made even more impressive by the fact that this was essentially a one-man project.

Puzzle lovers, check out Loco-Sort. It had me stumped at first - the tutorial is long and convoluted and I almost gave up. But the game is great! Loco-Sort is unusually scenic and interactive for a puzzle game. Simple but challenging concept of lining up wagons in order while removing obstacles and manoeuvring around limited track space. Much of the mechanics revolve around mazes, loops & switches. For more niche curation, follow me at: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/27440015-CSH-Picone/
