"Lucidscape" is one of literally thousands of retro 2D platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere... and I'm not kidding. Searching for "platformers" on the Steam store page yields over 17,000 results! Is this one of the best of those? Absolutely not. This is at least a genuinely made game, if not a good one. The platforming is rather weak and convoluted where it doesn't need to be. The theme is okay, you're experiencing a child's nightmare landscape... that could even work if the game was delivered with high quality, contemporary implementation. But it was phoned in, no polish, it's janky and un-fun. Platforming is an old, mostly dead genre, and this lacklustre experience, while it doesn't have an upfront cost, isn't saving the genre... it's no surprise this failed to capture any attention from gamers in the era of immersive 3D gaming. On the topic of visuals, the weak looking 2D retro assets seem like they'd be more at home in a browser game or a mobile app. 3D graphics accelerators hit the mainstream of PC gaming in the mid 1990's with cards like the ATI Rage and Voodoo3D, there's no excuse for such poor 2D graphics in 20…

At times you'll fall through the floor or platforms or get hit by obstacles that you aren't touching. Sometimes your character is a bit floaty and you can drift into obstacles and enemies when attempting to jump or avoid them. When you die you start over from the very beginning and you have to collect all the teddy bear parts all over again (this gets tedious fast). You can't remap the controls so if the controls are difficult for you to use then you're out of luck (using left shift is very difficult for me). If I could have remapped the controls I may have stubbornly tried to play the game through but as it is I've given up on it.
