Magic Disc Golf

"Magic Disc Golf" was an attempt to recreate the pastime of "Disc Golf", but on PC. Perhaps a noble intention... while nowhere near as popular as "Little White Ball Golf", Disc Golf is a game where you go out to a special Disc Golf course and throw various frisbees towards a basket. Just like golf, you choose your implement based on range, wind conditions and so on, and throw your disc with the intention of getting it into the basket with as few throws as possible. What do you do in the game? Seriously, just throwing discs towards the basket. There's a "boost" mode that seems to have been added just to add some flavour/differentiation/as a lever to add more to a somewhat shallow game. I'm not knocking anyone's pastime here, but I will knock this game... it's a terrible attempt to recreate the experience. Other reviews do a rather poor job of explaining why, I'll see if I can help from my experience with the game. Optimisation is terrible, the game runs at a bit of a slideshow even with the most modern hardware, that's a fail. this game SUCKS

Magic Disc Golf is a really fun idea for a sports game because it gives me direct control over the disc instead of simply controlling a character. I have to guide the disc through the air, deal with the terrain and work out the best route to the basket. I liked how this changes the usual disc golf formula because every throw becomes a small navigation challenge rather than just a matter of choosing direction and power. The flying mechanics are easily my favorite part. I can steer the disc after throwing it and use a limited boost to gain extra distance. That boost is something I have to think about rather than something I can constantly rely on, so I found myself planning routes around when I could make the most of it. Wind also affects the disc, which adds another layer of uncertainty to longer throws. The courses are designed around obstacles and difficult terrain, so simply aiming at the basket is not always enough. I enjoyed looking for unusual routes and trying to work out whether a safer approach was actually slower than taking a risky shortcut. Interested only for few games.

This game has potential but needs way more work. Discs don't vary much by type and all get about the same distance. The turn on the discs is horrendous and the tree interaction is bad. It would be better if there was overstable of each style disc and understable of each type of disc. Also being able to straddle would make this better.

this game sure is game. dont play it excpecting to play with friends, its local co-op only
