Magic Rune Stone

TLDR: Excellent Rogue-lite dungeon crawler with fantastic variety of builds/playstyles. Bosses are some of the best I've seen in similar genres with multi-stage fights. Good meta progression and highly encouraging to replay. Fairly short game to reach credits, and small issues with translations. Magic Rune Stone is one of the more action heavy Rogue-lites I've played where unlike similar games of its genre, you cannot just sit idle upgrading passive skills to do the damage for you. You are always actively attacking, dodging, activating skills and so on to survive, and honestly it plays fantastically as a result and really separates itself from games that are similar because of that. There is enough build variety depending on which character you start off as that would determine how you play, from melee, to ranged, to active skill heavy play styles, and so on. With 5 playable characters (6 after beating the first run), there's enough to experiment with on multiple runs, and you're encouraged to, since each run contributes to obtaining resources that go towards various permanent upgrades which include passive and active skills, weapon drops, and currency to lock off skills and …

Substantially better than what i was expecting from a game that's under $10. The different playable characters is where this game really shines. Each is incredibly unique and can be built a number of ways with an in-run skill tree that defines you character's unique ability, as well as 4 generic abilities found in the run that evolve based on the equipment and their tags or "Blessings" as they're called in this game. Even though it was short to beat, i really liked all that the main game has to offer. Every enemy has unique attacks and movements, and all he bosses feel very different. There's also a whole lot of extra content in the form of increased difficulty modifiers and a survival mode. Although, personally i think the survival mode is actually where this game fell short. It changed the core mechanics just enough to be awkward to play and i don't really see myself getting much from it.

This game blew my expectations away. This is a great roguelike game. You actually have to do dodge pick abilities gear and passives. There is so much to do in this game. I'm really enjoying this game. It's worth the full price even though I got it on sale. Great job guys.

Latest Edit: After beating normal mode I gained access to things that increase the difficulty so now the game is fun if I turn it way up. Bro whoever thought to give a slime a susanoo is hilarious Only one thing needs to change to make this review positive. The animations and sprites are nice, the equipment and skills are interesting, and overall the combat would be fun... if they nerfed shield regen. The shield regen in this is so overpowered that I have to actively be trying to die for a run to end. That is making everything else unsatisfying. All you gotta do is either change it so that you can either regen only a certain amount of shield per level or at the beginning of each level you get a certain amount of shield. Currently shield regen is just an overtime thing so unless you're getting hit every five seconds, nothing is gonna touch your health. Edit: I just got a victory in my second run :(
