About Meet Her There

If you could rewind a day that has already passed, would you find a way to do everything correctly?

About:

Meet Her There is a short, intense, emotional time-loop, in which you're stuck reliving the same day over and over, trying to reach a person you love. It is an ultra-stylized visual novel, made entirely in 2 colors.

Originally a statement on time-loop narratives, it went on to become something a bit more ambitious, although it is still a very small-scale, intimate project.

Made By: Sinisthesis

Developed and published by me. Hi, I'm H_AK. I created the entirety of the story, assets and music in this game.

Genre: Interactive Narrative, Visual Novel

While I wouldn't call it a proper visual novel myself, it is built using a modified RenPy engine, so it should be a familiar gameplay experience to everyone who has experience with visual novels.

Content Warning: suicidal themes, foul language.

This is a very intense story with a very dark theme underneath, but I believe that these types of stories are important to explore. There's no graphic violence and I tried to approach the topics with an appropriate level of responsibility, but at the end of the day this is a pretty heavy game so I hope that you're approaching it knowing that its contents might be emotionally upsetting. It is also entirely a work of fiction, and any semblance to existing people, living or dead, is purely coincidental.

Reviews:

Meet Her There received some great responses from the people who have played its development builds so far. Here's a couple of quotes from the responses I've received:

- love the art, the sound design, and the dialogue was very well done

- short but pretty compelling. The visual style perfectly suited the dark subject matter

- great writing and story telling

I hope that you like it as well.
Cheers, H_AK.

"Meet Her There" is a short, dark visual novel where you try to find your girlfriend after receiving an alarming text.
(yeah, you're right, it always comes down to suicide in themes like this)
You explore locations on a map, make choices, and if you fail, you loop back and try again. The whole thing takes around 30 minutes to complete. The red and black pixel art style works really well for the tone and the music complements it nicely. It feels oppressive in a good way. The writing is a bit flat though. Conversations feel unnatural and the characters are underdeveloped. There's talk about mental health and dark themes but none of it gets explored in any meaningful way. I wanted to like this game, especially since I enjoy visual novels with dark topics, but it was hard to connect to any of the characters. I've been in a similar but less serious situation before and honestly the game doesn't capture how that actually feels. It's too surface level. For the price it's a decent experience. The time loop mechanic is fun and the atmosphere is there. I just wish the narrative was stronger to support what this game has to offer.

Very good Visual Novel. The visuals remind me of Milk inside a bag of milk inside a bag of milk, but more understandable. It could last a bit longer, but the price is definitely worth it.

I wanted to like this game so much, especially since I enjoy visual novels with dark topics, but it was hard to connect to any of the characters. Everything feels one dimensional, and even when I finished the game I had very little idea for why the main two characters were together at all (and I really hope I'm wrong, but it felt like the text was suggesting that the main character is an adult dating a high schooler which is creepy at the best of times). There is very vague talk about mental health, which I usually appreciate in games, but it came and went and none of the themes of depression and suicide were really explored. I did enjoy the artwork a lot - it has a very retro appeal to it, and I think the choice of colour while common was perfect for the story. The mechanic of timeloops happening over and over is a trope I enjoy and it was executed here well - I just wish the narrative was stronger to support this game mechanic.
