Metaloid: Origin is an fast-paced gun’n run 2D platformer. Take on the role of one out of three android warrior's known as “Predator” and dash through 9 different levels in order to save their planet from an robot army led by Lucian Corp, whom invade their planet and exploit the planetary resources to fuel their galactic war efforts.

\
Choose and play as one from three characters which all offer different set of abilities and weapons!, Play as Erika and flood entire screen with barrage of bullet fire, alternatively reduce giant enemies to ashes in the blink of an eye as Zeta using atomic thunder or fly as Neva across the level equipped with jetpack to bring aerial doom.

\
From waterfall cave to scooter interception in desert, riding cart in volcano mine and fighting a giant walker on a snow field.

\
Collect Soulrium gems from levels and enemies, then use them to purchase new weapons and unlock new powers from anywhere in the game by simply opening pause menu, however some upgrades will require more than Soulrium to unlock them.

\
Metaloid: Origin features 2 difficulty settings to choose from for the player, some gimmick or enemies would function differently depending on which setting you did choose. On the hard difficulty mode enemies would move faster, deal more damage or even gain new attack type.

✦ AI summary

Players praise this action platformer for its solid gameplay, three distinct characters with varied weapons and abilities, satisfying boss encounters, and collectible system that encourages exploration. Common complaints center on occasional level design frustrations, confusing environmental collision detection, a coin-saving bug that can lose progress, and notably poor English translations. Despite these issues, most reviewers find the game enjoyable and worthwhile for fans of Mega Man-style action platformers.

I really enjoyed playing through this one. So far I've only beaten the game with the first character, so I still have two more characters to go. Solid, fun action platformer with a lot of variety. Hunting for collectibles and power ups was a lot of fun. The final boss was one of the coolest bosses I've seen in these kinds of games. I've only played through the fire themed character so far, but the ability and weapon variety was very nice. There's only four special abilities and four weapons per character, but each of them were solid and none of them felt more powerful than another - I ended up using all four weapons frequently. There's also a collectible "passive" powerup in each of the first six stages. The English translation is almost comically bad, but it gets the point across. The story is clearly not the focus of the game. Overall I would recommend. Should note that I played it on the Deck & it worked perfectly. But the game only supports 16:9 ratios, so expect black bars on the top and bottom of the screen.

Metaloid deserves a play-through if you enjoy platformers and Megaman games. Hope to see another one from the developer.

Metaloid Origin is very reminiscent of MegaMan X. From the game play to upgrading the PC, if you are a fan of MegaMan X or Metroid; this if a game for you. Keep in mind that some of the story has bad english translations. Otherwise it is a decent game that has a nostalgic feel that is fresh and new.

I think this game is underrated (currently 82%). If you check negative reviews, noone said "it's not fun". It's not a Megaman-like game, and it does not advertise as such. It's a run and gun with more platforming options than your standard Contra. Two negative reviews are actually mixed feelings or mention that the game is "great". One had help from the dev because they missed something, and still left a negative review. One apparently had lag issues, but still played for 4 hours. One complained about hard mode, which, to be fair, I haven't tried, but they spent 13 hours on the game. The game certainly isn't perfect : sometimes it's unclear what is solid or not, some sound effects feel a bit off. But there's a lot to play with : 3 characters, for which you can look for many upgrades. Level gimmicks everytime, which work well. The pixel art is good, and the music is varied. It's nervous and controls are on point. Considering the price it's absolutely worth it and even when it was more expensive it was fair :)
