Mimic Hunter was initially created as an entry for GameJolt's Adventure Jam 2017 #AdvJam2017 in no more than 2 weeks by Aliza Wenders and Derwen Llewelyn from Angry Cat Studios. But the journey doesn't end there! In those two weeks, we grew to love this game even more than we'd have anticipated, and we decided to tell this uncommon story in its full length, with all the gore and glory! During the early development, we succeeded in creating a very unique, stable and innovative platforming experience, but we had to cut a megaton of features and ideas (and most of the story content) due to the lack of time. And that simply couldn't stand! Now the whole story is ready, and it's awaiting a hero: You! ;-)

The story mode takes you on an adventure to defeat a mysterious ancient force that threatens the mortal world. During your journey, you will encounter nefarious enemies, unravel the secrets of the Hunters' Guild's past, and solve demonic riddles and puzzles.
As Mimic Hunter is designed to be quite a hard game with scenarios that take multiple attempts to figure out and solve, we can only estimate the actual game time you'll need to complete the story featuring seven unique towers. On average, it takes a player about 5-10 hours to finish the main story, depending on player skill and chosen difficulty level.
Mimic Hunter is primarily a platformer, thus jumping, climbing and fighting are very important to master. Additionally, there are riddles and puzzles you can't solve by platforming only: you'll need to collect lore and figure out the secrets. Fencing is also very important to overcome your foes, and you must learn how to do it properly. You'll be also able to handle a lot of situations by avoiding combat or defeating your enemies via the environment if you're cunning enough.

The Tower Builder (a.k.a. level editor) you get is identical to the one we used to create the majority of the content. You can create any kind of tower with dialogues, scripted puzzles, traps, events, and share it with other people! Basic editing is quite intuitive, but a full documentation/manual is also available.

However, my review is honest.
I received this game via Steam Curator Connect. Thanks! Skip to the bottom for my Final Thoughts Mimic Hunter is a 2.5D action platformer by Angry Cat Studios, originally developed during a Gamejolt game jam. Unfortunately Mimic Hunter is plagued by worse than awful controls that completely ruin gameplay.
Graphics
The graphics in Mimic Hunter are decent to say the least. The graphics are by no means a Van Gogh or even an artists rendition of a Van Gogh but that's not to say the graphics are awful. There is a certain charm to them and I like the 2.5D revolving tower that the game takes place in. The setting is very macabre and dark although I don't completely understand why the enemies are mimics (chests that are actually just monsters). That being said the graphics fit the setting but are mediocre in general.
Audio & Soundtrack
The music in Mimic Hunter is decent as well but not bad either. The music fits the theme of the game really wel…22 found this helpful
Review copy provided by developer via Curator Connect I hate writing reviews like this. I hate having to take a hatchet to a unique and promising game because of a fatal misstep. Give me aggressively bad games to slag, or mediocre time-wasters to meh at, but don’t give me something good that shoots itself in the foot. But alas, that’s precisely where we are with Mimic Hunter. I was immediately hooked by the unusual look and feel of this one, and there appeared to be plenty of depth behind those appearances as well. If only it hadn’t fallen prey to that killer of so many indie titles, the dreaded difficulty spike, we could be celebrating a real gem. If only. Mimic Hunter is the tale of Monsieur Ratimousse, a grim, anthropomorphic mouse charged with ridding his equally grim world of mimics. True to their name mimics imitate chests and sacks to lure unsuspecting souls into their clutches, but here these creatures are powered by a mysterious force known as the Unbound. Able to tap this power himself, Ratimousse is positioned to unravel the secrets of his world and a demonic force bearing down on it. To do that though, he’ll need to scale some of the deadliest towers in …14 found this helpful
Mimic Hunter is a console (Switch) ported 2.5D retro platformer ripping off the core mechanic from the Commodore 64 game, Nebulus (copyright Hewson Consultants, 1987), as most of the game involves walking around a rotating tower with platforms sticking out along the sides. The game features hand drawn "My first Wacom tablet" artwork which really isn't that bad, to the point I was somewhat surprised at just how bad the public rejection of this game on Steam has been. It's important to mention that this isn't a sincerely made, professional game, it's a Game Jam/demo project. Game Jam and other student/project games are not made for gamers, they're made for the benefit of stroking the ego of developers. It's obviously not possible for a game slapped together over a few days to be of the same quality as a properly, sincerely made game from a full development team with a full budget who take the right amount of time and put in genuine hard work to create a product for gamers. Sure, it is possible to slap together a game in such a manner, unprofessionally. This is a lot like driving a car using only your feet. Just because it can be done, doesn't mean it's a good idea, and often…4 found this helpful

No it's not very good gameplay wise. Graphics and sounds are pretty good, but controls are just bad. I'm sorry even as a hardcore platformer. This is just terrible with collision and placement. Trying to do a basic jump or even land correctly is a nightmare. Specially through gaps that are down right practically almost impossible. If you want a game that will cause you to have major aneurysms. This will definitely cause em.1 found this helpful
[th]
Mimic Hunter
[/th] [th]

Rating
Personal Rating: Game Need's more development as the key presses were'nt picking up correctly, So i connected a trustpad controller which did'nt work. Then i connected a window's pc controller (x360) which also did'nt work. Notice there was'nt any manual of gave instruction's and the tower was basically impossible to fully scale due to laggy or none regisrty key presses!. Graphic's were nice and the art was well enjoyable to look at but that was the only thing going for it, to much front end story not enough , tutorial on basic movement's. As setting's show jump but dose'nt explain you can double jump by hitting it twice which soemtime's don't reg therfore any user will take age's to figure this out or give up with the title and fast!
