It had fairly solid reviews as a Metroidvania, but what really sparked my interest was the idea of being able to play as more than one character. The vast majority of games in that genre revolve around powering up the main character, effectively putting all of those eggs into one basket. Spreading that out amongst a small crew with different abilities and styles sounded interesting to me, and I'm glad I gave it a chance.
Gameplay
Instead of piloting a single character that houses all of the abilities, health upgrades, and so forth, MP really does feel like a game where you're sharing the love amongst a party. Even the way each character moves has a distinct approach, so how you engage in platforming requires switching between them at the right times. Very short but good and atmospheric game. the characters are likeable and the unique setting lends itself to interesting level design and obstacles. as a platformer this game absolutely nailed it with its miriad of movement options unique to each of the 4 playable characters. music is also a banger only downside is how short the game actually is and how unknown it is as of now, this needs more love1 found this helpful
The setting being inside a giant living creature is a lot of fun. Traveling through blood vessels adds a unique extra layer to navigation, and the whole world grumbles in relief anytime you kill a parasite blocking a passage. Very satisfying.
It's a very interesting take on the Metroidvania genre, but the biggest draw is the party member swapping, being able to switch between 2-4 movesets on the fly, each with distinct personalities and combat styles is very interesting. The writing is a little flat, but has heart. You won't regret reading through any of the cutscenes the game throws your way. All-in-all, a good little game with big ideas and good execution.
Fantastic game! Everything I was looking forward to in a metroidvania style game. Characters are wonderful, artwork is amazing, world is fun and creative, and well crafted. I hope to see more games from Seafloor Games.
Definitely on the short side, even for a metroidvania, but interesting and fun.
