Honestly, not sure why it gets so much praise. Shallow game with horrible controls, bad hit boxes, and unavoidable enemy attacks. Far too punishing and grindy to start, especially managing the store and saving up for upgrades. Not worth any price IMHO. Maybe Moonlighter 2 will resolve these issues, but who knows. Thankfully I got this for "free" in a Humble Bundle.1 found this helpful
It's an older game but how can it be this good. The dungeons are like Zelda - old school Zelda 1, except there is a hell of a lot more than the magic sword and red ring that you can get. The gameplay, graphics, and enemy variety is impressive. It takes solid mechanics to keep me engaged in a controller game, but they have it. Normally I can't stand 'shop' games, but this title pulls it off with flair. I cadence my runs with opening my shop, shop upgrades are exciting. You can't just sit back and wait for the shop to close - there are thieves, customers will walk out, you need to lower or raise prices. The game lends itself to phases of gameplay - trying to clear the next level, trying to get a specific upgrade, trying to just raise funds. The game has depth, quality execution, and I would tell everyone to get it, even if it cost triple what I paid.1 found this helpful

Moonlighter really got me, finished the whole thing and I'm already waiting on the sequel The loop is what makes it work, your inventory is always full by the end of a run and you always want to push just a little deeper for one more item, then greed kicks in and you lose everything on the way back Back at the shop it's a different pace, selling your loot, fending off the occasional thief, upgrading your gear so you can go further next time, that back and forth between chaos and calm is the whole charm Story's solid too, art direction is on point, soundtrack is chill and fits the vibe perfectly Genuinely one of those games I'd point anyone toward

Wait, I bought the game after years of development and there are still no ps4 button prompts? This game is already a disappointment, but I will go down the rabbithole, will I find still gold or will it be rabbit poop?
