Museum of Monoliths

So it's more of an experience than a game and really lives up to its name. It feels less like a traditional game and more like walking through a museum somewhere on the edge of a dying consciousness. That’s honestly the kind of feeling it gave me. There are many locations, and they all feel different. Some are calm and harmless, some are interesting, others are unsettling or even disturbing. And a few feel like they were taken straight out of 2001: A Space Odyssey. It’s hard to even call this a “game.” It’s more like an arthouse experience than anything else.

I will be directly: as a game it sucks. And I would usually not recommend games on Steam, which are asking for money and are that short. But this work here isn't a game, it's a real artwork, which gives us an unpleasant feeling of our potential future. It's surroundings, surprises and the suiting background music choices are turning this "game" into an amazing experience, which is feeling like a dark prophecy emotion-wise. And yes, like some other reviewers complained there's no text at all here. But I think that works perfectly for this "museum", because those topics and the feelings alone are best spoken in an universal language: with vibes, our heart and visually. I can recommend this game to anyone, who wishes to "feel" the future. Enjoy your time-travel... PS: No achievements here.

A masterclass in ambient audio design in horror and, dare I say, a real showing that video games can be art in their own way, rather than a medium for exploring pre-existing art styles. There's also some absolutely gorgeous lighting and texturing work going on that I can't pretend to understand beyond understanding that it works! A great experience.

The sound design of this game is incredible. Traversing the weird landscapes of the monoliths doesn't seem that scary, just weird, but adding the unsettling soundtracks that you can alter to some degree? It's downright unsettling. I feel like there's so many layers of meaning here, and I'll need more time to process and unpack it. I obtained it on sale, but it's only a few dollars so worth the hour of great dark ambient music and creepy but beautifully designed environments.

It's a very cool game with a unique and interesting concept and a great atmosphere. Despite being short, it's definitely worth the price.
