Great game

Netherspace is a beautifully crafted retro-looking shooter game with quite a funny twist in most of the interactions that take place between the two starring heroes. There is great variety in terms of what the player can choose to invest in per playthrough, as the many ship's stats prove to be a major factor in choosing a personal gameplay style. The teleportation and shield mechanisms are both vital for survival and the ability to move at double speed when not firing gave me a good choice of defenses without which it would be impossible to reach the game's ending, so kudos for nice variety in that area. The ship's weapons have separate ammo each and up to four can be equipped. They each have their strengths and weaknesses, whether it is in terms of ammo, ammo recharge rate, fire rate, hitbox size, damage and certain special weapons even have spread and their bolts teleport along with the ship. What I enjoyed most, other than the direct gameplay, was the beautifully written script. Both heroes are interesting and the presentation of the plot after each defeated boss and upgrade screen, exclusively through the dialogue of the protagonists, worked perfectly for me. "Netherspace" is a very poorly made retro 2D shmup/Galaga ripoff (imagine making a game that somehow looks worse than Galaga, but in 2021). There's some ship upgrades and bossfights, but the graphics here were so bad that gamers never bothered to even touch it. Failing right out of the gate. When will amateur developers learn that gaming is a visual medium? So this looks like an old 1990's Adobe Flash game that you might play in a web browser, and the problem there is obviously Steam wasn't intended to try compete with Chrome and Firefox. If it can be done in a web browser, it's not even close to a cutting edge PC gaming experience. That's a problem. The graphics here are particularly awful, incredibly lazy, phoned in pixelcrap that probably took no more than 2 hours to make, so bad that it actually stands out as one of the worst looking games on Steam. Quite an accomplishment. It's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost.
