Never Grave: The Witch and The Curse

Not sure how I feel about this game. Its trying to be Hollow Knight but also Terraria? Somehow not good at either. No ultra wide support, but some of the screenshots from the devs show ultra wide support? Very confusing. What little I have played is not bad, but its not great either, so I guess I can recommend it.

I'm sorry but I can't not recommend this game I wanted to like this game after I changed the controls around to something I was comfortable with, the art is charming, but the gameplay is so stiff it's makes it not fun. I don't like how you need to press a button as you're jumping to cling onto the wall or ledge to get up. The input lag was horrendous! I had to press my attack button twice just to do one attack which caused most of my deaths. One hour in and I kept dying so much it felt like I made no progress. That's bad. I'm used to had games. I played on the Hard difficultly, but it felt like my deaths was due to the game being stiff and not buffering my inputs properly and not a due to lack of skill. The church is interesting but other than the village there is no way to return to the church outside of dying, with no way to heal in the beginning of the game, no resting point other than the church, this game just isn't good. Perhaps my mind could be changed if I played more, but I do not have the patience to play a game I am actively not liking to see that. I am still interested in the games story, but I will only consume that story via walkthroughs

The art is cute, there's a lot to upgrade especially with the town builder, you get a lot of powerful passives per run, and the the gameplay is fine... but ultimately it suffers from a few problems that made me put it down: [list] [*]The characters feel weirdly unresponsive at times. [*]The main gimmick, possessing enemies, is barely a function. So far: every zone only has ONE enemy each that can be possessed. For how prominently it was featured in the trailer: I figured there would be way more chances to use it. [*]The town building is weirdly clunky. You have to build on a 2D plane, and you get a LOT to build with, but I imagine most players will just want the functional buildings side by side and it gets weirdly hard to interact with them. [*]I'm not a huge fan of the levels bein regenerated per run, but ultimately the same stages. They're slightly different, but use the same blueprint every time so Ruins area III will be 80% identical to every other Ruins area III you visit.
