Notebook Entries Vol. 1

[h1]Overthinking an overthinker[/h1] Comprised of eight short stories, and being about the closest thing you could get to paging through a high schooler's sketchbook, [i]Notebook Entries Vol. 1[/i] is an appropriately-named horror anthology created by solo developer [i]anOVERTHINKER[/i]. It's experimental and a little rough, but there are some experiences that stand out above others. Here are my own notebook entries on each. [b]SplitScreen[/b] The game puts its best foot forward with what might be the strongest short of the bunch. Following some expository dialogue, [I]SplitScreen[/i] drops you into a dimly-lit suburban house with little more than your phone's night vision camera to guide you. The mechanic is implemented well, and the atmosphere is overall sinister and claustrophobic. [i]8/10[/i] [b]Alone/White Canvas[/b] The transition between games was so seamless I didn't even realize this was a seperate entry at first, but [i]Alone/White Canvas[/i] acts as a sort of continuation of the previous story. It's short, but does some neat stuff with sound. Not much to say about this one though, feels like a 3D version of [url=https://steamcommunity.com/app/368650]Dark Echo[/url]…

If you're into weird experimental things, yes. If you're lookinfg for an action-packed solo campaign, no ^^ Put some headphones on and let yourself get immersed in the twisted mind of the creator of this little gem. Short but disturbing.

This short anthology of games is an amazing presentation of skill and the willingness to experiment within a genre. Each game plays with game mechanics in different ways to unsettle you and generally brings something new to the table. I especially want to point out the immaculate sound design in Repeat.Repeat.Repulsion. Even though it didn't scare me as much as SplitScreen, it still got me in a chokehold, listening to every little sound. This anthology is a great horror experience and well worth the price. I'm really looking forward to the next game from the dev.

Interesting anthology game, the creator explores different kind of horror game mechanics which is pretty cool. Here's my simple spoiler-free rating: - SplitScreen & White Canvas: 7/10 - Enjoyed this one, gave me some goosebumps. The camera mechanic is pretty cool. - Just a Peep: 7.5/10 - I also enjoyed this one, the monster spooked me a bit, really creepy. - Intermission: 6.5/10 - Very interesting and engaging game, never seen anything like this. - I Think I Hit Something: 7/10 - I love the game mechanics in this one, even though it didn't really make sense I still had fun in this one. - don't look UP: 5/10 - Extremely short game but was acceptable and worth it. - Repeat.Repeat.Compulsion.: 2/10 - I cannot hear so I can't say much about this audio game, was really boring and frustrating for me. - a Sheep's Gun: 8/10 - My personal favorite, I really enjoyed the engaging mechanics in this one. The camera movement is bit weird but that doesn't bother me a lot. I personally would recommend you to buy this game when it's on sale.

Visuals, concepts, music, and SOUNDDESIGN are incredibly well done. The games are rather short, but for the price, they're totally worth it.
