Null Drifter

Quick score: 4/5 Notes: Extremely fun twin stick shooter, but also extremely light on content. I effectively 100% the game in only about 45 minutes. Once you have seen all the game has to offer it just turns into a regular score attack arcade game, just see how high you can go. IMO 7$ is a bit much for what is on offer here, but I personally really enjoyed the hour of playtime I got out of it. I also got it on sale though, not sure how I would feel if I paid full price. Screen effects are a bit extreme, but thankfully can be turned off. You can also choose a color palette that you prefer.

Another spin-off and side project of Project [b]Starship X[/b], even without reading about it I immediately realized it's supposed to be a simulation used by the pilots to train, as the X Maneuver is first seen here. Big name for what is a simple yet extremely useful dash, as it not only passes through enemy attacks, including energy waves that can't be avoided otherwise, it damages the enemies themselves, so much so that it's often the most efficient way to dispatch them. The gameplay is different from the other episodes of the PS series, as this is a survival arena shooter where, especially the first times, you are likely to last only a few minutes. But no run is wasted, as after one you can spend the earned money for permanent upgrades, or to have some perks at the next try. Parallel to that, while keeping a gradual escalation over a run, enemies will get more dangerous, with certain types starting to appear sooner and new bosses being unlocked and confronted. The simple monochrome graphics do their job, with many unlockable palettes. The fake chromatic aberration effect is horrible, though: I immediately looked for the option to disable it. Absolute blast.

Really fun, fast paced, arcade goodness. Handles great and def gets you sucked in to keep making runs to see how long you can last. Music is pretty chill too.
