Only Down, developed and published by Quiet River, is a physics-driven 3D platformer that deliberately inverts one of gaming’s most common objectives: instead of climbing to the top, your goal is to descend as far as possible. This simple yet unconventional premise forms the backbone of an experience that blends chaotic physics, surreal level design, and precision platforming into a game that is equal parts frustrating and fascinating. It positions itself within the growing niche of unconventional challenge platformers, embracing unpredictability and mechanical instability as part of its identity rather than flaws to be polished away. From the outset, Only Down establishes a tongue-in-cheek tone. The concept of striving to “hit rock bottom” functions both as literal gameplay direction and subtle parody of motivational tropes often found in other games. The environments are composed of floating structures, abstract platforms, and disconnected architectural fragments that create a sense of suspended descent. Rather than carefully curated, symmetrical level layouts, the world feels improvised and dreamlike, as though constructed from mismatched pieces drifting in vertical space. This…
I do not recommend playing this game, much less buying at full cost, only if at a discount and with a refund and the sale of expensive cards that will drop out in 2 hours of play. Personally, I didn't like it: the optimization leaves much to be desired, the main character constantly falls and flies through textures, which is why you start from the very top again. In general, double digested feces
ths game is fun! anD THIS IS KINDA HARD AND IT KINDA MADE ME RAGE.
2/5 Buggy mess. On your way down you need to get through tight holes in order not to get teleported back. You don't have to jump every prop, just fly to near the hole to the next stage, make it through. 2 such holes and a checkpoint will activate. But then you will quickly find out that checkpoints are broken and won't work properly. Example - activated a checkpoint after 2 holes. It checkpointed me to after 1 hole and when teleported from there, i was back one stage. If devs are reading, there should be a manual save option implemented because the game shouldn't be challenging and annoying, have a try at making the game more relaxing and rewarding by manual checkpoints. If it happens, I'll change the review's rating quickly.
