Background

Hi, I am a programming student at a game school working towards my master degree. This is a portfolio project that I made for a class during the summer term around June and July, time span of 8 weeks, and total hours spent on this project is roughly 90 hours. This is developed inside my own engine that has been created in the past school year. I did the Art and Audio as well, using Aseprite and 1BITDRAGON, the art creation time also count towards the project time, while audio is done after the project due date. Due to my lack of skill in art and sound, those part of the game are less complete.

Future Plan

This is the first self guided project for the school and there is still two more to come. So my time to work on this is very limited, perhaps I will only find time to polish this after I graduate which is 1 year after the release date.
At this point, the audio is not done yet, and I still haven't done any vampire-survivor mechanics like the select 1 from 3 upgrade, mini boss, and chess. I will definitely try to get these in before other things.

Update

I see people leaving bad reviews and sorry that this game can not live up to the expectations, and I value those feedbacks and plan to rewrite the entire project after I landed a job, estimated 2025.

To say this is an auto battler is like saying Balloons Tower Defence 6 is an auto battler, the game is a good first attempt at making a fast paced version of the tower defence format but it falls flat on the fact that it has no real user control baring placing towers down it might as well be an idle game with the level of control the player has.The game follows the rule of three to upgrade towers while this works in most games it gets messy very quickly, in this game due to the fact having to place all three in the same area is fine but when you have to place nine down to get a tier three that's when things get messy and starts to feel like there should just be a button to push to upgrade when you have three. There has supposedly been play testing for this game but somehow not a single person tried to view the stats of a tower while on your bench what crashes your game, the tutorial is pretty straightforward but somehow fails to actually tell you anything of substance other than the fact you can upgrade towers by placing three and upgrade/refresh the shop but fails to mention that placing towers near the edge of your "build" zone allows you to then build further out. Now onto my …

It's a fine game, but a bit more interactivity is desired. Along with that, there's a game crashing glitch where trying to inspect the wall crashes the game. My guess is there is nothing for its description so when retrieving it the game crashes.

"Pan's Survivor Chess" is marketed as a "Vampire Survivors" meets "Chess" meets "Auto-Battler". It is none of these things, and you know for a fact when developers don't even know what their game is, you're going to have a bad time. Really, this is more of a clicker/incrementer with poorly done progression elements. What do you do in the game? Not much... it plays mostly like a clicker, you just buy units and drag them onto the grid to see if you get more numbers to buy more units with... ugh this is so bad. The game is really simple and unambitious in terms of implementation, more of a tech demo or one of those cases where an amateur developer spends $100 to publish something on Steam Direct to see if it's possible. Yes, obviously it's possible. A proof of concept, tech demo, or something that's less than a little blip on the radar isn't offering anything truly valuable to gamers. The graphics here are particularly awful, so bad that it actually stands out as one of the worst looking games on Steam. Quite an accomplishment. It's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if d…

A surprisingly competent tower-defense auto battler.
