Panta Rhei is an adventure rogue-lite where time is your weapon. You take on the role of Phi, a Guardian of Time exiled in the Garden of Past since the Great Cataclysm. Phi spent eons tending to the garden, hiding from the outside world and neglecting their duties as a guardian. Now a chaotic force threatens to tear the flow of time apart, forcing Phi to leave their sanctuary and embark on a journey through the Realm of Time. A journey that requires Phi to face their shadows of the past and embrace their origin as a Guardian of Time to save their home.
Phi's abilities to bend time allow you to manipulate the environment to clear paths or solve clockwork puzzles while exploring. They also allow Phi to revert their own last moves to double their effectiveness in combat or recover from lethal mistakes.
The Realm of Time holds many secrets for you to uncover. Each location has its own challenges, gradually revealing more of the world as Phi solves side quests and cleanses the world. I don't often leave reviews early enough to be within the refund window, and given what I've seen so far this is very much a sideways thumb kind of review at the moment, but this game hasn't gotten much attention yet and I do think it's good enough to be worth a look so I'll mark it positive for now. Just temper your expectations, this is very much a small dev team sort of game. And maybe wait for a sale. + Style is neat. Almost a claymation sort of aesthetic in the game world, and the cutscenes are well animated. + Time powers so far all make sense and seem to have a high skill ceiling. So far I've gotten self time reversal to repeat attacks and break shields, environment time reversal to manipulate traps, time freeze to lock enemies or environment objects in place, and time stop to set up teleports. I know there are at least two more waiting in the wings as well, just from what I've seen along the way. + Roguelike elements all seem to be working. The per run upgrade pool I've seen so far has been decently varied, the permanent upgrades seem all right as well and are tied to progression and not just attempts. Great Game! First of all, I’d like to say I’m more of a casual gamer and haven’t played many games similar to this, but it was such a cool experience. I love the fight animations and the gameplay, especially with the time rewinding mechanic. The music, the ambiene and everything in general is just such a vibe. Perfect game to just sit back, relax, and enjoy some gaming.3 found this helpful
this was so much fun!! i loved the fighting mechanics, the sound design, the art & the beautiful animations. the UI could maybe use a few tweaks here and there (especially the map) and I ran into some bugs. but overall it was still really fun & i'm excited to explore further 🐟3 found this helpful
full disclaimer - i know the devs pretty well and helped testing the game a bunch but i still really enjoy the combat feel and the whole power system. the whole combat gameplay does need a little getting used to but once you get good at using the time powers effectively it becomes so satisfying to pull off combos. the balancing right now is a bit wonky but i'm sure they will update that soon and i kinda hope they add something that allows to go really deep with the late combat abilities.3 found this helpful
