Paranoia: Happiness is Mandatory

This game is dumb and silly and a ton of fun. It definitely has a mid 2000's feel, but the atmosphere is fantastic. I got it on sale for $2.99, and it was well worth that price.

So-called strategy/RPG has no Save menu, therefore it is worthless by design, a pathetically failed attempt at software engineering. I mean, when even Micro$oft products do better than you, you've got some serious issues. But it's Paranoia, dozens of hours of hilarious ancient memories, so I had to check for myself, see if there's any fun to be salvaged at a 90% discount, any redeeming aspects. Nope, utter fail on every front bar the art. The saving fiasco extends to not having checkpoints and reloads either. Meanwhile, the world is barely interactive, except for the ubiquitous pieces of furniture that get automatically destroyed on a single click, raising your treason level. I can't emphasise enough how stupid that makes the interface. Click on a bench, on purpose or not, you won't sit but will punch the thing into rubble instead. The UI team has been scheduled for Termination. Not a smile in 2 hours. It's not that the general writing is bad, but I could see the attempts at humour, and they all failed so far, sadly. Right now it is 95% off. For that price it is a steal. The game has the atmosphear from the RPG. If you like that enough then you should try it out. It is buggy but so far I have not run into a bug that wrecks my run. You can always restart the missing and unless you managed to find a start of day bug then that should set your save straight.

Bought this when it was heavily on sale because I like the TTRPG. It takes way too long to get into any of the action It's baaaaaaad. Combat is clunky and lacks strategy or depth. Plays like an RTS with no RTS mechanics. Humor is highly subjective, but the jokes I encountered are not funny. Very first joke is shamelessly lifted from a youtube skit. Too much reliance on "haha get the reference" and not enough original ideas.

Clearly kicked out the door before it was ready. The humour is right in line with the tabletop, the themes are on point, the presentation is great. But the game really feels half baked, especially with some aspect that get repetitive FAST and a campaign that isn't very long. If the game was a base 10 bucks this would be a positive review, but I can't justify the asking price in it's state
