An intriguing story of three lives intersecting and converging to confront the astral plane. :o

Introduction
paravalence ~with my angel is a kinetic visual novel developed and published by Effigy Softworks Ltd. It narrates three stories: Antoine (a tomboy who feels isolated until she finds a friend who seemingly understands her), Thomas (a young cabinetmaker whose grandfather has recently passed away and is dealing with a supernatural entity that only he can see), and Cecilie (a daycare worker who has clairvoyant powers). All three main characters have the ability to see beings in the astral plane, which may make them behave in usual ways. Despite their problems, love may be the way to resolve them... As for the gameplay, the story is linear, so no choices are present. Upon starting the game, you only have access to Antoine's story. After completing it, you can access Thomas' story and after completing that, you can access Cecile's story. There's a brief epilogue after finishing all the stories, and throughout this visual novel, several CGs are shown although no CG gallery is present. A varied soundtrack is present, too, but at the time of this re…

My favourite depiction of practical sorcery! You will like this VN if you appreciate a really fleshed-out depiction of occultism. You will also like it if you are interested in violently flawed love and its consequences. The author understands that, "Even one who is a dog has been one's father, for the world of living beings is like a dancer. Therefore one's own flesh and the flesh of another is a single flesh." This results in a subtle treatments of love, violence, and the hidden potentials between souls. I'm glad the naked androgynous guy in my head has only my family's best interests in mind :)

gangstalking hyper liminal sewer demons and sentient catholic church revenants (with dementia) fight for the souls of a teenage Quebecois kid and several blue collar Quebecois cabinet makers who just want to have a chill time and get a paycheck I received it for free and read an earlier draft of the finalized game, for my biases. Paravalence is a fantastic first entry by Effigy Softworks and has been a labor of love over, gosh, several years I think? I'd been quietly following the author for some time and hearing about the release of this slowly nearing month after month and, for awhile, just had a spiffy trailer and a vague description of it being very Quebecois --and now having read it, the effort that went into its production really shows; dialogue is timed very well, the sound design is solid, the UI is occasionally pretty playful, and the art direction is overall pretty professional. So the story: if I were to write a very short blurb it's basically a regionalist story in three acts first borne as something vaguely denpa where a child is invited down to a sewer after witnessing a murder, and is taught strange lessons while slinking further and further away from normality; and…

"We're all doing magic, of course." I think that quote encapsulates so much of what I got out of this story, and will carry with me for a long time. A beautiful and often haunting soundtracking that really ties each scene together, fun use of inserts/effects/text size/color and other small fun stuff, and a unique art style with both backgrounds, ui, and character art. I think the entire visual presentation is some of my favorite with VNs. Getting to spend time through the eyes of these characters and experience their weird and complicated bonds with each other and the world was my favorite part. I have so much more to chew on still before I could talk more about that, but I have been thinking through a lot of questions since finishing it... What rituals do I do every day that give my life meaning? What impact do I have on people I love? What would I leave behind after I am gone? What bonds make me, me? Probably a lot more than that. That is really my favorite part, and I really wanna see what other questions get out of it. It took me around 10 hours to beat, but thats only because I tend to be a really slow reader who re-reads parts pretty often, so the 6 hours on the store pa…
