I think there's basically 3 "target demographics" that might be interested in Party Words, and unfortunately, each one would better be served by another product. I think Party Words has potential, but it has not yet found its niche. Hopefully they will have figured it out by the time comes out of early access. The first demographic is "Streamers looking for a game to play with their viewers". Party Words has about half a dozen game modes, but "Casual Doodle" is the only one that's really playable on stream. The others all strongly feel like they were intended to be played with in-person friends. But even Casual Doodle's pacing is oriented more towards in-person participation: the UI is designed so that the person who did the drawing has to confirm whether or not people guessed the secret word correctly, which doesn't scale well to strangers who might "cheat", or do the natural "stream delay" inherent in playing games on stream. For this demographic, people would probably rather play Jackbox. The second demographic is people looking for a simple in-person party game. For this group, Party Words seems a bit too unstructured. "Party Words" is a dead multiplayer "party game" misleadingly advertised as free (there's an expectation for payment) and of course, no players. There's a number of different game modes for this mobile app, none of which are played by anyone on PC. Game modes include quizzes and pictionary ripoffs and so on, which is fine, but at the same time this minimalist mobile app stuff obviously isn't what you'd call a PC game (this is a mobile app after all) so it's obviously gone down like a lead balloon here on Steam. The game features really lacklustre 2D visuals (does the developer not know 3D graphics became mainstream in the mid-1990s?). Gamers don't spend thousands of dollars on gaming rigs and the latest 3D graphics cards to play 2D games. Even mobile phones and game consoles can do 3D graphics now. There's no excuse. There's no initial download price, but the developer was charging $2 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It seems like a nice gesture for the game to have no up-front cost anymore, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. Even after that, this still isn'…

Party Words is an engaging word-based game featuring a variety of modes and an extensive vocabulary to maintain excitement. Players can either pass and play on a single device or connect multiple devices to explore new gameplay options. Who can guess the quickest? Who has the most creative ideas? Who excels in doodling? Discover the answers with Party Words. Initially, the game can be quite perplexing, and it may remain so upon further attempts. However, as players begin to grasp its mechanics, a degree of enjoyment can be found within the fleeting moments of clarity. The individual functionality of the game modes was not particularly user-friendly, leading to instances of aimless clicking during turns until we figured out the roles of each player. Additionally, the repetitive short music loop that plays throughout the entire experience can be somewhat grating. Whether navigating the menu, playing the game, or setting up a session, the same five-second tune continues to play. Fortunately, there is an option to mute the music, which I hesitated to use for fear of missing any important cues. In summary, it was a rather chaotic experience.

A confusing game at first, and then more confusing at second. Some sense is made out of it eventually and, in that little window of sense you find, there's some fun to be had. How the modes work individually was not very intuitive, and I found myself randomly clicking away through turns before we realized which player should do what. The short unchanging music loop throughout the entire experience was also not the most pleasant thing to sit through. Whether you're on the menu, in-game, setting a game up or anything, the 5-second beat just marches on. Gladly there's a button to disable the music (which I did not activate in fear of missing out). In short, it was a hoot.
