About Plant Budz 98

Plant Budz 98 is what happens when a virtual pet game is taken way too far. Imagine playing WarioWare, Doom, and R-type with your Tamagotchi on a Windows desktop. You'd get something close. It starts innocently enough. You've got a virtual desktop. You've got a pet. You feed it, play with it, watch it grow. Normal stuff. Then your Pig evolves and suddenly you're bashing through obstacles in an endless runner. Your Fish becomes a side-scrolling shooter with a Starfox-style level progression, unique bosses, weapon upgrades, the works. Your Cat drops you into a 2.5D first-person shooter with sprawling levels. Your Robot hands you three simultaneous minigames and a timer and wishes you luck.Oh, and you can replay any game as any pet. They all play differently. There are unlockables. It's got a soundtrack that'll have you grinding your armrest. We may have lost the plot a little. You'll love it anyway.

I picked this up because I love idle desktop pet games, so I didn't even read the description that closely... I was FIGHTING BATTLES HAHAH genuinely wasn't expecting that at all. The mix of a cozy desktop pet simulator and all these completely different game genres is such a fun idea. Probably one of the most unique indie games I've played in a while. i also LOVE the aesthetics!!

This game is awesome. The pixel art is adorable, the music is fantastic and i think I've tried pretty much every mini game now and each of them is so fun and challenging. My only tiny nitpick is the Game Over screen. It'd be nice if there was just a quick Retry or Back to Menu button instead of it sitting there. Other than that, I had a blast. This is such a fun little indie game with a lot of personality, and I definitely recommend giving it a try.

so impressed with this game, its very cute and silly, I also wasn't expecting it to get as challenging as it did in some places, which made finally beating parts of it really satisfying. It really feels like the developers had a lot of fun making it, and that energy comes through in every little detail. I'm genuinely surprised this isn't more known because it's such a memorable little indie game. 1000000/10. Go give this one some love!! :D

Honestly, Plant Budz '98 is a really nice game. It starts out as a simulated Windows 98 desktop. You get a little digital pet, you feed it, so on. This pet simulator has of entirely different genres. One minute you're chilling, and then doing a doom-style FPS or a space shooter. The soundtrack is also really nice. If you like something unique, challenging, and deeply funny, just buy it. 10/10

Honestly, such a cool concept. I thought it was just a retro desktop pet game, but when your pet evolves, the game completely changes. Evolving into a fish turns the game into a space shooter with boss fights on different planets, and evolving into the cat drops you into a first-person castle shooter (the cat mode is easily the best part of the game, so much fun). It's a bit open-ended at the very start and the ship movement speed in the space mode could be a tiny bit faster to match the cursor, but the visual style is awesome and the gameplay loop is super satisfying. Definitely grab this if you want a unique, nostalgic arcade challenge!

the retro desktop theme is honestly one of my favorite parts of this game. It feels like messing around on an old family computer as a kid again and i loved how each pet unlocks its own mini game, i think the Cat and Fish evolution mini games were my favorites.
