Classic 90's FPS + Tomb Raider + Metroid Prime = PowerSlave Exhumed. Rather get the great port of the classic ps1/saturn game by Nightdive Studios called PowerSlave Exhumed.
PowerSlave (DOS Classic Edition) is a fascinating revival of a distinctive first-person shooter from the mid-1990s, bringing back a game that stood apart from its contemporaries through its unusual blend of science fiction, ancient mythology, and arcade-style action. Developed by Lobotomy Software and published by Throwback Entertainment and MIRROR Soft, this release preserves the original DOS version while making it accessible to modern players. Rather than relying on nostalgia alone, the game offers a glimpse into a period when first-person shooters were still experimenting with themes, mechanics, and level design in ways that feel refreshingly different today. The story places players in the role of a special operations soldier sent to the Egyptian city of Karnak after a mysterious alien force cuts off all communication with the outside world. What follows is an adventure through ancient temples, deserts, catacombs, and forgotten ruins where extraterrestrial technology and Egyptian mythology collide. The premise may sound unusual, but it gives the game a memorable identity. While many shooters of the era focused on military conflicts or demonic invasions, PowerSlave created a s…
A pretty solid old shooter that has aged surprisingly well, though the lack of true 3D aim is a little cumbersome and especially strange for the Build Engine
I used pcexhummed to play this I am quite fond of this game, it has issues of course, the weapons in the console version are better and there's one more of them that isn't here, the enemy roster is small and consists almost exclusively of humanoid project throwers. What this game excels at is level design, this is some of the finest level design I have ever experience in an fps, the game also has a powerup system I really love and the fact you can replay previous levels to refill on supplies is super good. Exploring is just super fun and the game has very good music, though some tracks from the console version are cut which sucks, the game is also more drab then the console version, with less colorful stages like the purple mines and swamp from the console, also especially the final areas. 3.5/5, extra half point cause I really liked the last level.
Some of the levels looked really cool, but there were a couple of obnoxious ones with the switch hunt going stupid. The fireball traps are a bit too ubique and the arsenal could've had a proper shotgun and a rocket launcher. Also the sound those giant wasps make is really grating. Overall the game is an average quality build engine game, not as great as Duke3D, Blood or SW. But more refined than Redneck Rampage, NAM, WWII GI and Witchaven games.
