Psychedelic Dream does not claim to be a game in the traditional sense. It is described as a journey involving ‘surreal dream exploration’ and puzzles. I’ve played quite a few games that fall into this category. What makes them enjoyable is unique art, music, or both. You begin at a main menu that does not quite fit a standard display. There is a settings option that leads to a screen with inactive options. Oh well… Starting the game puts you in a checkered room, with a “loading” message that persists until you move through the one open door. You then find yourself in a “dream” screen which will be different each time you enter. And, here lies the problem…. I admit that I tried only about a dozen dreams, but none elicited a “Wow!” reaction. Each felt like someone had laid out multiple instances of stock objects and textures but failed to create a cohesive experience. I’ve done a wee bit of platforming, been eaten by a shark, and pushed some objects around. Other than that, I have just wandered at a fairly slow run. Perhaps I’ve yet to encounter the more interesting scenarios, but I’m beginning to enter dreams I’ve already visited. While I appreciate the concept of a …
