"Quanero 2 - System Release" is unfortunate, but not in the usual way a bad game is unfortunate. This is an incomplete student project, a VR exclusive detective game with a time control feature. And it showed a huge amount of promise before it was dumped by the students in an incomplete state, leaving a somewhat impressive looking, but empty and shallow VR tech demo on Steam that has little to no real value as a game. The graphics in this game are really quite good, which at least makes the game look more appealing. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. It's VR exclusive, and that shows the developer failed to understand the most basic axiom of VR game design... if the only cool thing about your product is VR support, your product is not cool. On the matter of pricing and value for gamers, most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. You play as a crime scene investigator, looking for clues into a cyberpunk train derailment. The same gameplay as the first game, Time Manipulation. Longer than the first game, still an hour long. Controls were a bit hard to get down, I did play it on a Quest 3. Looks great, You play through 4 different levels. Still free, kind of crazy.

I'm judging this based on knowing the current situation and what happened to the title, so looking past the bugs / performance issues. I really enjoyed the first game and have been looking forward to working my way through this one. It took around 2 hours for a full run-through, although a lot of that was spent fighting the menus. It's such a shame this was never finished as they were onto a win for sure, but it's understandable and i'm glad they decided to put out the work they had put into it to get it to this point. If you liked the first game you will like this, if you haven't played the first game then I would recommend playing that first as that has a lot more polish and will give you a feel for this one. Some tips on how I got it to run: No matter what system you have set all settings to LOW in the menu from the get-go. Once you have completed the tutorial you will go back to the menu to listen to a cut scene before heading back out. Once you go back out you can change the settings to HIGH and once you are ready to go back to the menu to check on progression set everything back to LOW before you leave. It's a free tech demo just like Quanero 1, but bigger and better looking. There are 4 different levels connected by a vague sci-fi story. Investigation mechanics were added but not finished so it is still not a game, but a cinematic experience. Visuals are impressive for a student project: environment in the first scene is very detailed and atmospheric, character models look good in static. In motion, however, a lot of the charm disappears: facial expressions look weird and lifeless, animations are janky, hands and clothing are clipping a lot. Plus optimization is lacking, so be sure to change the visual settings appropriately for your GPU.
