"QuentBlast" is a somewhat lulzy RPG with a bowling theme. You know what kind of game the gaming industry has never, ever, ever been crying out for? Yep... a bowling RPG. This features fairly low quality low poly 3D visuals which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and it's clear the developers behind this don't understand that. It should be no surprise to anyone to find out the gameplay here is worse than the visuals. It's clunky, filled with bugs. It's clear the developer had a goal for the game and put a lot of effort into the game design itself, but all of this effort is wasted when it's not upheld with a reasonable technical delivery. Resolution, controls are locked and there's no audio controls either, hammering down just how poor the technical delivery is. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. QuentBlast is an eccentric indie adventure that takes the familiar idea of bowling and transforms it into the foundation of a bizarre role-playing experience. Instead of spending the entire game competing for strikes on ordinary lanes, players enter a strange 3D world where bowling techniques can become legitimate methods of fighting enemies. Developed and published by Alex Araujo, Quentin Holmes, and Joe Cano, the game embraces its small-scale origins rather than disguising them, relying on unusual mechanics, humor, and personality to make an impression. The adventure follows Kid, an apprentice studying under the accomplished Dr. Quent Blast. What begins as an opportunity to learn about bowling soon develops into something considerably stranger. The world contains hostile creatures, including monsters interested in taking Kid's money, so the protagonist must put those newly acquired bowling skills to much more aggressive use. It is an intentionally ridiculous premise, but the absurdity works in the game's favor because QuentBlast never feels as though it is trying to be a serious fantasy epic. QuentBlast is a bowling RPG with an interesting gameplay mechanic in that of bowling a ball through pins in order to do damage to enemies. The concept of what QuentBlast is in terms of it's gameplay is fun. However, the battles you face with enemies are rather difficult as in the starting area you have little health and each enemy does a lot of damage. So it's easy to die and get a game over screen which is not fun. However, I do appreciate the style of QuentBlast which looks like a PS1 game with the humor of the cartoons of the late 90's. Though, I wish this game did not have enemies respawn once you go and defeat a bunch of enemies and your health is down and you restock on food to boost your health as it makes clearing the starting area very difficult. That being said, I give QuentBlast a 6/10. If they made changes to the starting area with mobs making it less difficult, I could see the game being a 6.5/10 or perhaps even a 7. I really dig the humor and the combat system. If your into bowling games or perhaps into the idea of bowling within an RPG. Give this a play.
