From the moment the action begins, the game establishes itself as a throwback to classic arcade cabinets, where the objective is simple on paper but demanding in execution: survive as long as possible against an ever-escalating flood of enemies while mastering a distinctive shooting mechanic. The light sci-fi framing and exaggerated villainy exist mainly to set the tone, serving as flavor rather than a driving narrative force, and the game makes no attempt to distract the player from its core loop of constant motion and split-second decisions. The most defining feature of the gameplay is its color-based firing system, which sets Radical Spectrum apart from more conventional shooters. Instead of firing freely, players must collect matching colored radiation dropped by enemies, charging their weapon before unleashing an attack.
