Rage Runner

Rage Runner is an older game from 2014. It's a venerable 10 years old at the time of this review. It's sold as a "racing" game but this is really more like an endless tunnel runner, you don't have full 6DOF movement, it's very arcadey, and your goal really is to balance how fast you autorun and avoid all the obstacles. Like your usual 2D retro pixel endless runner except in 3D and somehow still not any better. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. We can say with great certainty that this game is not an asset flip. This is because the assets are of such poor quality that no self respecting asset creator or artist would publish them under any circumstances. Rather than focusing on traditional racing mechanics like laps, opponents, or vehicle customization, the game distills the genre down to pure speed, reaction time, and memorization. It places players in control of a futuristic craft hurtling through narrow tunnels and geometric corridors, where survival depends entirely on split-second decisions and precise movement. The core gameplay revolves around navigating increasingly complex obstacle courses at blistering speeds. Players steer their craft along walls, ceilings, and floors within cylindrical or trench-like environments, avoiding barriers that appear with little margin for error. An excellent game for me, fun hours on it. Thanks to developer, Rage Runner is a good game.

The title is very apt. But, I had a rather good time.
