As one who constantly searches the Internet for all kind of games with a focus on genetics, breeding and mutations, this is a hidden gem. - Straight to the point, no other nonsense, just breeding and genetics at play - Nearly infinite possibilities thanks to the many varieties obtainable and the offspring rating system, despite focusing on just one genus (rats) - Very realistic when it comes to how the various aspects (genes transmisson, COI, varieties, rating of "beauty standards" of offspring, illness and death) are handled - while breeding is the focus, gameplay allows for different directions: you can choose to simply raise your favourite rats, or aim to collect every single variety and mutation, or even breed to push stats to excellency - Trying to breed the perfect offspring with the perfect stats is addicting and challenging, providing hours of gameplay if you decide to go that route. After almost 4 hours I'm still trying to get more than two "excellent" stats in one single unit. The choice of 2D pixelated artstyle is the perfect one for these types of games. Very repetitive very quickly. My biggest issue is that it takes AGES of grinding to level up, but you can't breed better rats unless you level up to 3, then 5, etc. It would be way more fun if there were challenges that were not related to level! I should be able to breed excellent rats from scratch, not have to buy better rats as I level up.2 found this helpful

One of the most satisfying breeding/genetics games I've played on Steam even with such a simplistic layout. I love the desktop style navigation, breeding to improve traits is satisfying & not too much of a slog, and I really appreciated how many different genes there were to focus on to play around with various projects. The only small bug I noted, and I couldn't find a way to report it in-game so mentioning here - The "select all" function is rough to utilize when you get up to large litter quantities. I was struggling a lot with selecting all, they'd randomly unselect, or would reselect the one rat I unselected, etc. Other than that, fantastic game that I will certainly be intermittently visiting, very much looking forward to seeing if there are any other species spinoffs!
This is SUCH A CUTE RAT BREEDING GAME!!! I absolutely adore genetics games, and I love that rat overflow allows you to have choice in the kind of rats you breed, while also having a paced out gameplay that keeps it interesting. I think the art style is adorable, and I am so happy I stumbled across this game by chance. It's genuinely such a cute and relaxing genetics game, I would recommend it to everyone who enjoys these kinds of games!
