Red Blaster

So I bought this game because I saw the only review was by Obey The Fist and I simply didn't think it was fair for him to be sole voice for this game. Is Red Blaster some sort of ingenious game that everyone needs to rush out and play? Of course not and I'm sure even the developer wouldn't say so about their own game. What is here though is a really simple arcade shooter that doesn't break new ground in any way but it does exactly what it set out to do. It brought to mind the ancient game Stampede, released by Activision way back in the Atari era. You have to prevent the ships from reaching the bottom of the screen or striking your ship. You can upgrade your ship from the points you earn in the level. That's about it. At worst, I'd say maybe 5 bucks is a little too much for the game as is but I'm okay with the couple of bucks I spent on it. Give the demo a shot if you like Atari style games. But look at that review by Obey The Fist. It is the most entitled rambling I've seen. It's the voice of a know-it-all who doesn't actually understand the medium he claims to be defending. Another minimalistic game on steam. There are tons of stuff like that here...

Lucky me gets to be the first to hold the dubious honour or reviewing this... thing. Red Blaster is yet another of literally hundreds of amateur retro arcade bullet hell/shoot 'em ups infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. This is an old and dead genre, and it doesn't serve the interests of gamers for there to be yet another "me too" entry that looks like it was built from a template/demo engine and rushed onto Steam. This shooter really made me stop and think, and not for the right reasons. This is an incredibly barebones, minimum viable product shooter... so simplistic it's hard to describe it as a game... this comes across as shallow even when compared to the first late 1970's arcade machines, let alone the state of the art games we get today in 2025. It really is just an ultra simple, ultra basic shooter... move the ship, push the fire button... repeat endlessly. Ok, so there's levels and a primitive, unengaging upgrade system tacked on... the whole thing here probably took less than an afternoon to make. Red Blaster is a fun and challenging arcade shooter that feels like it was made by people who understand classic games. If you enjoy retro shooters and games that reward practice and precision, this one is definitely worth playing.

It's too simple and generic. Even for a flash game this would be too basic.
