Replik Survivors

Purchased key for 70 cents and regret it. No ultrawide support. The first few missions were about a minute long. I hate these kinds of games where they start you off like this. You have to hold RMB to auto-attack. The game doesn't tell you that you have to put things on from your backpack after you buy things. The English translation for some cards is dodgy. I just. I don't even want to list all the rest of the things I don't like/care for about this game. This game was not fun for me. I do not recommend this, even for a dollar.

I feel like this game has potential, but it unfortunately falls short on a lot of things. A lot of mechanics and stats don't seem to be explained or easily able to find, and the game feels a bit clunky (it's hard to describe, moving around, getting hit, it all feels odd). I think the worst part is the durability system. I am not sure what durability was supposed to add to the game, but it feels like it is just counteractive to the experience you get from brotato or survivor games.

Despite the barely functional translation, genuinely awful sound design and somewhat grindy metaprogression, the game is extremely good at being a Vampire Survivors clone with an interesting gimmick. The main gimmick of the game is a weapon combo system, where each hit of your weapon activates the next weapon in your weapon stack. Another big difference from the main VS formula is that duplicate weapons dont combine to level up the weapon, and that weapons have a durability system where they break after a certain amount of rounds. You can stockpile weapons into yourt inventory to replace the broken ones, so replacing the broken weapons usually isnt going to be too difficult. Overall the system works really well to bring variety to each run and keep the sameyness of the run down a bit since picking up a broken weapon combination once doesnt immediately win you the run.

The Survivors genre is crowded enough as-is, but this one takes it to a new level of repetition and blandness. It just feels like it's missing something. I can barely be arsed to explain what I think is wrong with it because of how underwhelmed I was. It honestly should just be a free online game, kinda like Kagura Survivors, which I found infinitely more fun (plus it's free).

gotta love these niche VS likes that have cool twists to the formula its nice
