About Rhythmic Retro Racer

Rhythmic Retro Racer is a music-focused rhythm game built around carefully authored timing and atmosphere. The game takes place in a mysterious room inspired by 90s retro aesthetics, where you select VHS tapes and enter structured rhythm sequences. The room is not a menu — it is part of the narrative.
At its core, the gameplay focuses on precisely authored rhythm patterns, created using professional rhythm composition tools. Notes are not randomly generated or loosely synced. Each sequence is intentionally designed to match the structure, intensity, and flow of the soundtrack. The soundtrack is a central pillar of the experience. Powerful synthwave tracks drive both gameplay and mood, while visuals, pacing, and tension are shaped around the music rather than reacting to it.The game also features a dedicated Race Mode, expanding the experience beyond traditional rhythm gameplay. Players can choose between 8 different cars, compete across multiple race maps, earn money through races, and unlock new vehicles through an in-game purchase system. While still connected to the game’s retro atmosphere and soundtrack-driven identity, Race Mode offers a more arcade-focused experience built around speed, progression, and replayability. As you progress, subtle narrative elements and unsettling moments begin to surface. Without explicit exposition, the game slowly reveals that what you are doing is not entertainment, but part of a larger, uneasy experiment. The sense of control fades, replaced by curiosity, tension, and discomfort.Rhythmic Retro Racer blends rhythm gameplay with psychological tension, retro-futuristic atmosphere, and a mysterious narrative that unfolds through play — not dialogue. This is a game about music, precision, and the feeling that something is not quite right.

As someone who's a retro/synthwave fan and comes from playing games like Neon Drive, Distance (by refract), Retrowave by Rewindapp (Which actually delivers on this kind of niche genre), Redout and plenty of other rythmic musical racers; This game is , atleast at its current state , garbage. (If the developers of this game are passionate about this project do not be disheartened by my criticism of your work but use these points to further improve on the product) Here are a few of my objections: -the menu navigation could've been easily build around arrow keys but it's controlled with an inverted axis autistic cursor, -the options are even unreadable from the background light being emitted against the white text, making even choosing the resolution for the game unreadable. -no control over advanced visual themes and the preset setting controls are unresponsive -The cars...where do i begin,..they feel weightless pucks sliding away not even smoothly on ice -game models are really bad and basic, graphically its just flashy with no substance. -Game overall has the feel of those early Miniclip flash era crazy taxi kind of games. -Instead of a relaxing synthwave game that i was looking…

I like it more than music racer. At least there's variety in the patterns to collect on the road, nor does the car randomly dip under the road like in that game. My only gripe is how insanely fast it all goes. I know it's racing but holy hell. I can play rhythm games just fine around 5.0 speed and I find myself not able to react on time many times in this game.. Hoping the dev continues to work on this; while it's a little rough around the edges, I think it has a lot of potential. One of the things I'd like to see is the ability to customize the speed at some point in the rhythm mode.
