About Rift Keeper

Embark on your journey, travel through rifts and restore the balance as the Rift Keeper in this handcrafted 2D roguelite platformer with challenging, fast-paced action gameplay.

Duty called and the Rift Keeper woke up from his deep slumber. The little town he was summoned was silent as if it's the end. He opened the church's rusty old door and four old men wearing red robes greeted him with a grim smile. One of the priests stepped forward and said, "The Gates are open".
 • Embark on your journey , travel through 30 different dungeons! Grow powerful as enemies keep getting harder. How far can you go?
 • Loot epic gear as you progress through the dungeons. Find new weapons and accessories, grow your power!
 • Unique enemies to fight with and many more to come!
 • 30 handcrafted dungeons!

I wanted to like this game, but the controls are boned (controller drift which is nonexistent in any of my other 500+ games) which remains unanswered for by the developer. From what I can tell, this is an abandoned project, so I don't expect a fix anytime soon - likely never. I refunded this and warn anyone else off. It's too bad, there could have been a good game buried in here...
OVERVIEW
I saw footage of this game over a year ago and was hopeful what it could turn out to be. I saw it on sale a few weeks ago and hoped it had progressed so I picked it up. Unfortunately I didn't find it to have made much development. Overall, the experience has been slightly lacking, but I think that the game could be salvaged.
PROS
- Music is pretty cool - There is an Aesthetic that I like, but it needs developed - Easy to pick up, within an hour of playing I already felt in tune with the system - There is a story, writing seems just okay. World has a little flavour to it
CONS
- Incredibly repetitious. You play the same part of the game several times over. Deaths send you directly back to the beginning with very little sense of meta progression. There is a skill tree, but the only meaningful skill to purchase is gold increase and retention and the currency to purchase skills seems to be an entirely random drop from enemies. Most my good runs depended more on randomly getting amazing gear as a drop (which was rare). After that, just hoarding gold for the 20K accessories seems to be the best road to victory. - Combat is lack luster. Most e…

The game moves me to the right, and i have no option to stop moving. I tried a number of fixes, and nothing worked.

This game is just really repetitive and boring. After the second boss, I already had all the strongest items in the game and the only reason I died after that was because I got impatient and just raced through the levels trying to just finish as fast as I could. Each dungeon felt exactly the same as the last with the only difference being the color of the background. The gameplay was vaguely Dead Cells-esque, but way more clunky. The interact button seemed to only work half the time, dodging sometimes wouldn't work, either. I ended up just rapidly pressing the button three times when I wanted to dodge roll. There were three types of weapons, but neither of them changed the play style. It's just stats. I got it for really cheap, but I wouldn't waste my time on it if I were you. It's just not very good. Plenty of better sidescrolling action games out there. 3/10
