Remnants of the Rift

Maybe some other people enjoy this, but it's just not something I can get behind Normally, I enjoy these kinds of games, but this one just... doesn't hit the mark. It feels like if you took a single character from a traditional TRPG and put them into a roguelike. Of course, you can't adjust their moveset heavily, so you just slap on modifiers that change very little I have similar complaints with Windblown. This game takes too long to change up your toolkit in any meaningful way, and players new to the game are likely to spend most of their refund window getting familiar with the controls, barely making progress, getting a pittance of credits each run to upgrade health, looking at that new ability with wonder, only to realize they now must drop one of their existing abilities to use a highly specific and limited ability that needs specific circumstances. I'm not doubting its power; moving an enemy is powerful. I'm doubting its usefulness when my damage capabilities are already spread thin as is. Of course, this is a much better game than Windblown. For one, it's cheaper, a whole $10 cheaper for a completed game. It also doesn't have mechanics that conflict with each other…

Promising game, cool art style. Nice skill tree and progression. Interesting worldbuilding. Negatives: Controls takes some time getting used to, both in menus and in game. Did not liked the noisy part of the post processing shader - would have been nice to remove that effect completely.

Once you get past the learning curve of the movement controls, you quickly get into the pace and flow of the game. The game has a fun and unique style, and I look forward to seeing how the development progresses. On the flip side - the game is still very much in Early Access and in need of polish - so the price feels quite steep for its current state - but I can see the potential and will still recommend the game.

The controls do be wack, but you kind of get used to it after a while. What really got to me was the fact that there are no sounds in the game except for 2 tracks of music that loops repeatedly. Obviously, it's in early access so this is bound to change, but the game really suffers from the lack of audio feedback from attacks and such. I like the aesthetic, especially the backgrounds, even with the graphics being rough around the edges (again, early access). This game definitely has potential and the mixed genres is a really cool concept. For this price though, I would wait for a few more updates before buying and then try it out!

Everyone is praising the visual style and the music of this game for a good reason, they are great. But you can have 4+ enemies on the screen at the same time with 2 health or more, slowing tiles and all of your skills do 1 damage. Even with the possibility of the enemies clearing each other out, the amount of damage upgrades is not enough at the moment. If the developer ever adjusts the damage numbers the game has fantastic potential.
