Rise of Piracy

Clearly a work of passion, a labor of love and I respect that. There are minor bugs, for example some delivery missions get bugged sometimes and can't complete them and abandon, things like that. Or some pathfinding problems of troops and ships... Most early access indie games can have those, no big deal for now. Trading is not very meaningful for now, you can earn massive money with short delivery missions, can't understand the whole picture yet. Also the difficulty system is not very good. When you increase the difficulty, the AI gets buffs and hits harder. I would expect smarter AI with more ships/troops at higher difficulty, rather than cheating... The real problem is serious FPS drops in large sea battles and land invasions. Even my PC is way above the recommended specs, and even I limit my fps to a low level... Sometimes it gets unplayable. Also, game doesn't offer any formations in land and sea battles. So, battles are just "click to attack". A basic, casual wargaming experience would be nice with simple formations. I will reinstall the game after some updates or after 1.0 release, it's a promising project. Wish good luck to the solo developer.

It's basically a sandbox pirate fashion strategy game. You can directly control your flagship in combat, although I find it easier managing all of my boats top down usually. The ships and units generally do what I want, including fire a direct line and accidentally hitting friendlies if I'm not paying attention, which is good to know they absolutely will follow my orders if possible. I am a massive fan of capturing ships mid battle or to be able to just bombard an island I'm invading before sending in the ground troops to clear it out. It's true there isn't a lot of content right now, but I have a lot of fun with what there is and I can already do a lot that many other Caribbean pirate fashion games don't give me a lot of freedom to do. The faction diversity is also a massive positive for me, and I'm allowed to join one I found out, help expand their borders. At the moment the game is very bare bone with countless bugs but maybe in a year or two this game may get better. I do see the dev putting out patches so that is a good sign that there is development going. I say not worth buying at the moment unless you want to gamble and get it for cheap in case some day it may get better.

I wish I could get into it because it conceptually seems fun, but I had a really rough time even getting into it. It feels super clunky, I went into a combat, the UI's were barely visible and if they were visible they were almost transparent, I had no clue what was even going on. It feels very unintuitive, even if the game in itself might be great. Will definitely watch it but in this state its not for me
