RITE

Got baited by the beautiful graphics and the fact that I... thought I loved platformers? But this was unbearable to me. Levels have very tedious designs where you are expected to do a same type of jump multiple times in a row, and that number is even higher (sometimes DOUBLE) if you aim to go for all coins. It was already tedious for the first worlds but the last one is an atrocity. Every single new level that I achieve to reach I give it a glance and then I roll my eyes up thinking "how long until I nail all these jumps at once". It also doesn't help the fact that the mechanics of the game are really, really unconfortable. Controlling the momentum, especially in the air, is really weird, and the character is addicted to grab walls whenever possible. Timing jumps while tapping is also very unforgiving. I have huge tolerance for many gaming challenges and ESPECIALLY for platformers, which makes this even more surprising to me than any of you, but even after just 5h I can't seem to enjoy a single minute of this. It's only 4,99€ and it has good amounts of polishment, but I can't recommend it when almost the entirety of my gameplay has felt like a chore.

Really fun, really difficult. Pure platforming. The character is super sensitive though, making small movements almost impossible. Sometimes it feels like you're fighting the controls.

In a game about precision platforming, RITE fails by having horrible controls. Getting the right jump height is frame-perfect and acceleration is near-instant. Worlds 1 and 2 were designed with this control scheme in mind, but worlds 4 and 5 were not. And most levels are uninteresting. At least half of the levels were all about consistently doing one trick. There was one level where the gimmick was getting into openings that are one tile tall at the ceiling, and getting into that gap needs a pixel-perfect jump as bonking on the ceiling kills your momentum. Plenty of levels also liked to put a very hard obstacle at the end, so you can pull off several tricky jumps in a row just to get punished for your final jump not being frame-perfect.

Underrated

started off solid, then the last world appeared and it was just repetitive frame perfect jumps which ruined it for me.

this cute platformer lured me in with cute pixel art and a low price tag. unfortunately, platformers live and die by two things: the controls and the level design. while it isn't evident in the first hour or so of play, the character in this game is extremely twitchy. it doesn't feel so bad when all you have are wide open hallways and minimal hazards, and the first 2-3 worlds feel good to move around in. this all changes in world 4. the increasing difficulty of the levels tends not to highlight the strengths of the precision allowed in the system, but rather how inconsistent and volatile the character can feel due to the very high gravity in particular. eventually i got to a level that required a precise height of jump (i believe called minefield or smth) and it really felt like rolling the slot machine rather than actual timing with how strict it was. many levels also feature repetitive design, where you need to make the same hard jump several times in a row, and it makes the game feel flat and monotonous. more like a series of challenges to practice, like practicing guitar chords. i like difficulty in a platformer, i have p ranked pizza tower with both characters, and beaten ce…
