RoadKill (2025)

Roadkill breaks away from the large amount of horror slop out there these days by using an actually creative concept and making it work. It's a simple yet fun game that rewards planning and patience. The game can be difficult at times but this is IMO a good thing! No hand-holding, no constant directions (or yellow paint), the game gives a vague direction on what to do and the rest is up to you! It reminds me of what horror games used to be, something that is hard to come across these days. I hope this game gets more attention as it really deserves it.

I like the idea of the game, which is why i am sad to say i do not recommend it in it's current form. It contains several game-breaking bugs, as well as some design issues. Said bugs include the car teleporting as well as clipping through terrain/houses or flying straight up a mountain to get you from quite a distance away. Design issues include an egregious amount of invisible walls (which strangely do not affect the car.) and unclear rules about when an object (bush, container etc) counts as one you can hide behind.

Fun indie horror game. Plenty of jump scares, Great audio design, well worth the play!

I quite enjoyed my experience with RoadKill. The game boasts a decently large map to explore and collectables to find along the way. There are still a few I've yet to find! The overall game loop is relatively straight forward: activate generators randomly generated across the map while avoiding a murderous sentient car. The style and ambiance, soundtrack and sound effects are all well done in my opinion. I did have some frustration with the car's AI, however. The sound cues for it would always come in too late resulting in a lot of unnecessary deaths. The car would, at random intervals, despawn and spawn elsewhere. There was even an occasion where the car spawned directly in front of me and killed me within seconds. The car detecting you is also incredibly inconsistent. I think with some tweaking on the AIs part, the game could truly shine! To summarize, the gameplay loop, aesthetic, and expansive maps are a plus, but the AI needs a bit of work!
