🔧 Update (March 6, 2026) The developer responded to this review and quickly addressed three technical issues mentioned in my original review. After replaying the game, I can confirm that the placeholder background has been removed, the Steam achievements now trigger correctly, and the menu freeze I experienced during my first playthrough has not occurred again. I appreciate the developer responding so quickly and taking the feedback seriously. The rest of the review below still reflects my thoughts on the story, writing, and overall scope of the game. 💬 Supportive Caveat Updated: Room 304 is a very small visual novel that initially launched with a few technical issues, but the developer responded quickly and addressed them soon after release. Those issues have since been fixed. 🎮 Gameplay & Genre Room 304 is a very short boys’ love visual novel centered around dorm life and light relationship choices. A full playthrough of both routes takes well under an hour. The structure is simple: you share a dorm room with two potential love interests and choose which one to spend time with over the course of four in-game days. There are two endings and four CG illustration…

Premise This review reflects my personal experience with the game. While I aim to write thoughtfully and as fairly as possible, my reviews are subjective in nature and should not be used as objective metrics to assess/critique a game. I also curate a steam group which focusses on reviewing BL/Bara/MxM VNs. Feel free to join if you would like to see more reviews! :) Gay Games Vault
SECTION | SCORE --------------------|------- Writing & Story | ★☆☆☆☆ Representation | ★★☆☆☆ Gameplay | ★☆☆☆☆ Art & Direction | ★★★☆☆ Recommendation | ★★☆☆☆
Writing & Story — ★☆☆☆☆ Room 304 follows a fairly simple premise centered around Kael, who moved into a dorm with two other men. In the story, you witness an extremely superficial level of emotional trauma and a semblance of connection between two strangers. On paper, I do not think the foundation of the story is terrible. There is enough there conceptually for a short emotional VN to work. The problem, however, is the execution. The writing feels heavily AI-generated and unfortunately, it becomes obvious very quickl…

Don't want to give this a negative review because it's short and inexpensive but I'm going too anyway. I will say that I enjoy the character art sprites, it has a fitting soundtrack and the UI is really clean. However, the storyline is pretty poor. I bought it because the synopsis sounded like a pretty good premise for a Boys Love title. Except, you didn't even utilise your own plotline for anything. The game is literally called Room 304 and the 'cursed' Room meant nothing. It meant nothing to the main character, nothing to the storyline itself, near nothing to your roomies nor did it mean anything to ME as the player because there was no time for me to even connect to it. There was like 4 lines of dialogue about it across the whole game. A jock and a nerd were cast for the room mates, turns out the jock is soft-hearted with hidden vulnerabilities and the nerd has some hidden courage. Cliché trope that felt super flat to me and it never expanded on it. The story pacing was really off, I can't tell if this took place over 3 or 4 days because we only played in minor parts across the different days before it advanced to the next one. I also just met these people, there wasn't any fl…

The cute short BL story!

The only thing that made it okay was the art, the rest is unfortunately very bottom of the barrel. The writing, like another review said, is very ai-generated and it's very obvious right off the rip. I did thankfully buy this expecting ♥♥♥♥, so I'm not disappointed, just upset that you can ruin a VN like this, please never use this as an example if you are to make a VN.

I knew going in that this game is remarkably short. What I didn’t expect was the emptiness of the romance elements. The MC is just suddenly in love with whoever you pick, with no real character development of the MC.
