About Runes

Runes is a unique puzzle game where you need to arrange the marbles in each and every level to match the picture in the upper-right corner. The less moves you use to do that, the more stars you'll earn. Each of the pieces can only move in the direction of their arrows, so your moves must be thought out and planned in order for the orbs to arrive at their designated places.
  • Complete 120 hand-crafted puzzles
  • 6 color and music themes
  • Enjoy more than 15 hours of gameplay

Runes is a simple, lazy minimalist 2D mobile app-like placement/pathing puzzle game where you're presented with a picture showing the target alignment of balls, and you must move the balls around to fit that target. Two catches... as the screenshots show, the balls move in only one direction, so you need to plan out how they move carefully, and you also have just a limited number of moves. And just like a crappy mobile app, if you get it right, you get 1-3 "stars", so the developer clearly designed this game for mobile peasants and their iPhones, and not PC gamers and their gaming rigs. So this is a problem already. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. The game features extremely lazy, minimalist "art", of the type you normally expect t…

Runes, developed by Ede Tarsoly and published by Headup, is a minimalist puzzle game that focuses entirely on logic, efficiency, and deliberate problem-solving. Rather than relying on flashy visuals or elaborate storytelling, it builds its identity around a single, well-defined mechanic and gradually deepens that concept across a large collection of handcrafted levels. The result is a quiet, cerebral experience that challenges players to think carefully about every move while maintaining a clean and distraction-free presentation. The central premise of Runes is deceptively simple. Each level presents a grid filled with colored marbles, each marked with directional arrows that restrict how they can move. A target configuration is displayed, and the player’s goal is to rearrange the marbles to match that pattern using the fewest possible moves. Because pieces can only slide in the direction indicated by their arrows, each puzzle becomes a spatial reasoning exercise that demands foresight and planning. Unlike many puzzle games that allow free movement, Runes imposes tight constraints, turning even small boards into intricate challenges. As players progress through the game’s 120 han…
