Sanguo: War Under Heaven

"Sanguo: War Under Heaven" is a wweird little tech demo of a proof of concept for an RTS game... it's clunky and underdeveloped. While it "works", there's obviously no players (I mean, the quality speaks for itself, and it doesn't say much), leaving a rather pointless little homework assignment tier game. Really, the advice here is to save up a few bucks for one of the Total War games when they go on sale. The graphics in this game are passable, but could be better. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. Not every "free" game really is. There's often MTX, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, or any other number of things that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game. Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. This game is trash. The men barely move and just stay in place the controls to manually move them don't work. The enemy always gets to winning even when my whole side is heavy armor and the enemy only has ten unarmored people. This game sucks please fix it if you wish for it to have a future

I grew up playing RTS games and I think that Sanguo provides solid, semi-casual gameplay in that vein. It seemed overly simple at first and then I found myself really invested in troop strategies -- like moving my spearmen toward the horses and wondering if I should outfit some of them with heavier armor or get more archers. I fought a few multiplayer battles against a friend, as the game recommends. I also tried out the single-player mode, where you can modify the AI army. The graphics and music were fairly immersive. Overall, the experience was very indie, fun, and replayable.
