Scavenger's Deep

"Scavenger's Deep" is a contentless (all procgen algorithms) barebones ripoff of Risk of Rain 2 but without any of the polish, nuance, proper progression, and with a scuba diving theme that nobody was really asking for. It was a huge failure on Steam Direct. What do you do in the game? Third person exploration of procgen environments, some fighting/boss battles, and annoying die-and-reset pain. Although playing the game is painful enough to deter everyone. In terms of visuals, this features fairly low quality low poly 3D graphics which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and while some developers struggle with creating high quality visuals, failing to do so is a disservice to gamers. It's very difficult to recommend bad looking games. The developer chose not to do the job of a real game developer and create meaningful bespoke levels, narrative based gameplay progression and so on. Instead, they decided that "Procgen IS content!" and lazily tried to use procgen algorithms to create infinite, samey, repetitive, soulless levels, because that's a lot less work. Yeah, this didn't really work for me. The game somewhat works but is very barebones. I do like the general style and graphics but otherwise it is lacking. Attacking is very slow, if you dash to the enemy you take a lot of damage still, I couldn't heal and eventually just died. If you like the looks of it, it's probably still worth giving it a try, it's free and you won't loose anything but a little time.

Finally! An underwater souls-like! [not really, but kinda] You're an old-timey diver on a mission! DEFEAT ALL FISH! You have two main weapons, Trident and Speargun...and 2 sub weapons, but I never used the subs at all, and mostly just used the speargun...up until the final boss, where the trident was much better. There's a good variety of fish to fight, most of them take 1 to 3 hits. The swordfish were particularly annoying tho, as their charge attack seems to hit you no matter what. Each level had a neat giant boss with fun mechanics. Besides all the sealife trying to kill you, you have to watch your air tanks, as they deplete quickly. As you kill fish, they drop scales which you can exchange in the shop for more air/health/powerups. You'll get way more scales than you reasonably need. The graphics are cartoony and fun, not trying for realism here. Love the goofy run-cycle, and how the speargun shoots. I had a lot of fun, but have a few gripes: 1: The trident's hit detection is weird...s'why I didn't use it much. 2: You have two types of dash, but neither of them like to work, you don't really NEED them tho. 3:If the tutorial mentioned the shop anywhere, I missed it...s…

Very short little game, has a few mechanics to combat, but ultimately it was just spamming Q and Left-click to beat every enemy and bosses for me. If you want a free game to pass some time, you can do worse than this.
