Scurry

Recommended, although with caveats. + Ascending difficulties + 9 squirrel breeds to combine (or not) for different builds + Fairly unique premise * Meta-progression reliant - Scurry breed is by far the most important one, due to being able to apply to ALL squirrel breeds damage resistance, max hp, attack damage, less spawn time... damage resist being the difference whether you are one-shot or not, in high difficulties. This breed will be used every single run to some extent, which is a bit of a shame since it adds to the sameyness. You'll want to max its' meta-progression ASAP - Due to difficulties requiring you to level up squirrel breeds with meta-progression in order for their stats to keep up, you'll want to focus on leveling one breed at a time, which somewhat forces you to play that breed only, until you have leveled up another one. Problem being, that by the time you have done that, you've likely hit, or almost hit, the max difficulty anyways, after hours of play, at which point I doubt one will be likely to continue experimenting with other breeds - Hard to visually tell some effects apart, such as charm and auras. e.g. every time I play a charm build I can not diffe…

Cute idea for a survivorlike. If you like Skull Horde or Be My Horde you'll vibe on this. I can't tell how "deep" the game will ultimately be, took me about 2 hours to unlock all squirrel varieties, but I like that the levels have some escalation to them all the same. For the price, I think it's a great deal.

Unhinged, cheap and fun.

There are a lot of bullet heaven games on the market. There is a large subset of those that involve summoning a horde to do your bidding. I've played a lot of them. Scurry is one of my favorites of the bunch. While there are some balancing issues, and the sprites look straight out of 1996, there's something so incredibly satisfying about seeing your squirrel horde overrun cops, and I have to give the dev credit for actually putting in people playing golf on the golf courses.

I absolutely love this game! On the surface it sounds ridiculous—you play as a squirrel, build an army of squirrels, and take on golfers—but somehow it just works. The progression is incredibly addictive. You're constantly unlocking upgrades, getting stronger, expanding your squirrel army, and finding new things to do. It has that "just one more upgrade" feeling that keeps you playing far longer than you planned. The controls are smooth, the gameplay loop is satisfying, and there's always another goal to work toward. It's one of those games that's easy to pick up for a few minutes but somehow turns into a couple of hours. If you enjoy games with exploration, upgrades, and constant progression, don't let the premise fool you. This has become one of my favorite indie games, and I highly recommend giving it a try!

I genuinely think that this is the best summoning/horde survivorslike/bullet heaven game that you can buy right now. I love survivorslikes, and I've probably played ~50 of them at this point, with several of those having the same schtick that you can't attack but you can summon a horde of various creatures that attack for you. Scurry pulls this off really well. It doesn't take much time at all to unlock all 9 breeds of squirrel, and you can pick any of them on level up, but there are several different modifications that each squirrel can gain on level up, unique to each breed. This means that you have a lot of control at any time over which types of squirrels you are focusing, giving you a big hand in build crafting. That being said, there are no re-rolls, and each squirrel breed has several different mutations they can get, so you still have to pay attention and find the best build that a given run gives you. All 9 breeds seem viable and interesting from what I can see so far, which is great. They stand out and there aren't any redundancies. I haven't encountered a single bug or technical issue so far. Really the only negatives I have to say about this game are a few QOL concern…
