Good.
"Shapebreaker - Prologue" isn't a game at all, it's just an ad for Shapebreaker. Talk about store pollution... Misleading marketing like this is an abuse of the Steam storefront and the "free" category. The product this is advertising, Shapebreaker is an incredibly lazy attempt to make a ripoff of Slay the Spire but with the laziest, crappiest TD tech demo ever made bolted onto it... like... no attempt was made to create actual computer graphics properly. Amazingly, and this might be the greatest display of delusion I've ever seen, the developer expects people to pay him money for that much laziness.... but that's not really relevant, because "Shapebreaker - Prologue" isn't Shapebreaker, it's just an advert for it! Incorrectly published adverts are harmful.. they take up visibility that should instead be afforded to ethical developers who do the right thing. And it makes it harder for us to find those ethically made games. The goal here is to get you to spend $5 USD on Shapebreaker. I don't recommend you get suckered, or reward these kinds of shady, deliberately misleading marketing practices. They're harmful to everyone. Let's look at the price an…
A delightful mix of deckbuilding and tower defense
The game is initially quite enjoyable, but it gets frustrating to restart with the same uninteresting deck once you've mastered the mechanics.
I enjoyed the game For feedback: I think the game could be improved by adding resource collection for each shape broken. In classic tower defense games, you gather resources from defeated enemies to make decisions about upgrades in real-time. Integrating this kind of resource collection could enhance the gameplay and add a satisfying element of progression as you see numbers increase with each enemy defeated.
Since there are so few reviews, I thought I would leave one even though this is really just a demo. This is a mostly straightforward tower defense game, but adds Slay the Spire style deckbuilding and map traversal. The tower defense portion has very simple "shape" graphics so the game is all about the mechanics, not the presentation. That being said, there is a good variety of enemies with flyers, armored enemies, ones that get faster over time, ones that split, etc. The towers only have 4 stats (damage, attack speed, module slots and range. Cards are your towers and your modules, and some cards allow changing the element or the attack priority. The modules allow you to boost damage, add splash damage and I presume more things I didn't see yet (or forgot about). The enemies don't have a set path so you can use towers/walls to alter their path for optimal damage, assuming you can get the right cards. This demo only has one of the decks, so I have no idea how the other decks are different. The game was quite fun with some nice ideas that work well together. As a demo, it did it's job and made me consider buying the full game. The towers felt a bit samey, and the maps were …
