Shiren the Wanderer: The Mystery Dungeon of Serpentcoil Island

If you love the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games. Get this! Its made by the same devs. The Shiren games also precede the Pkmn Mystery Dungeon games. This is the original series (Together with Dragon Quest Mystery Dungeon) before they made all those spinnoffs/crossovers. Shiren is the father of the modern rougelike genre, was already there before the genre got so popular with games like binding of isaac etc. The start of Shiren 6 is a bit easier and more newcomer friendly then previous Shiren games, but there is still lots of late game content for roguelike hardcore fans. The change to 3D graphics from the beautiful pixel art of the older entries, takes a bit getting used to it. The new environments, character designs and dungeon designs look fantastic tho. I wish the series would get more popularity, hopefully with a new Pkm Mystery Dungeon on the horizon. "Copium"

A very solid and well polished JRPG traditional roguelike mystery dungeon game. While it still has a lot of elements from archaic game design like hidden traps and heavy RNG, the smoothness of the interface, control scheme, and general polish already puts this close to the top of the list in terms of accessibility. While something like Brogue or The Ground Gives Way may be more tactical experiences, Shiren 6 at least offers a better on-ramp to that ecosystem of games without having to remember if an F is a fox or a fire dragon. I think a lot of people that grew up with Pokemon Mystery Dungeon coming to this are going to get a severe beating and not like the game as a result. Those who played Shiren-specific entries will find a lot to like here. In fact, fans of heavy RNG permadeath roguelike games will also find a lot to like. The game plays great on the steam deck, and people LOVE this game on Android at the very least. I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate this game so much this is not at all what I thought it was going to be

shiren games have always been masochism incarnate. honestly, the graphics are growing on me, and it has it's own charm... you will get frustrated bc of piss poor rng but that's just standard fare for mystery dungeons. sometimes i wonder if i like pain and hardship and then i remember i really really like mystery dungeons at least you don't have to grind weapon exp like shiren 4 and 5!!! shiren 6 is still challenging, though

The amount of RNG and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in this game is unreal. Go play Pokemon Mystery Dungeon or a mod or something.

Azure Dreams was one of my favorite games for Gameboy Color, and I had not played a similar game to it in a long time. This absolutely scratches that same itch of gameplay where the dungeon moves with you at each turn. Makes for some interesting gameplay and turns each floor into a big puzzle of item management and combat. I had played the previous title (Die of Fate?) but found this one to be a bit more enjoyable!
