SHIRIME: The Curse of Butt-Eye | 尻目 is the story of a Yokai called Shirime.This is the first chapter in a series of horror games - 7TaleZ - based on Japanese folklore.
As the protagonist John, your objective is to find your missing girlfriend Sharon in the creepy Shirime Forest. However, your journey is not without peril as you are stalked by the eerie and malevolent yokai, Shirime.
To survive, you'll need to hide and run to evade Shirime's pursuit, making sure to pay attention to your surroundings and use the environment to your advantage.
The gameplay focuses on exploration, survival horror, and evasion elements. Your primary objective is to collect pages scattered throughout the forest that will reveal the story behind Sharon's disappearance.
However, each page you collect increases the intensity of Shirime's pursuit, making it harder to progress. You'll need to use your wits to evade and outrun Shirime while exploring the forest and finding new pages.
Speaking of the Yokai Shirime, the kanji is written as 尻目. 尻 (shiri) means "buttocks" while 目 (me) means "eye." So, literally translated, Shirime means "butt eye."

What initially sounds absurd because of the creature’s strange folkloric origins gradually becomes genuinely disturbing thanks to the game’s oppressive atmosphere and clever use of tension. The story follows a man named John as he searches for his missing girlfriend Sharon, who vanished inside the mysterious Shirime Forest. This is a short, absurdly funny horror game featuring a giant eyeball in a butt as the main monster. The graphics and voice acting are surprisingly good, with detailed textures and high-quality sound design. The gameplay is more comedic and chaotic than genuinely scary, though there are jump scares. The story is minimal and mainly serves as an excuse for humor and absurd situations.
A pretty random but hilarious game!
I'd give this game a "Neutral" review if possible. [i]But[/i] for what you get, I have to go with the Negative review. What you do get is a pretty decent "Slenderman" clone. It takes a fairly goofy yokai and leans into that concept, not being too serious as it [i]cracks[/i] some jokes throughout. However at the same time, it's genuinely creepy to be stalked by this thing while wondering around to find the 8 pages, and has a morbid ending I didn't see coming. [spoiler](and neither will our main character anymore)[/spoiler] [i]But[/i], the game is insanely short and ridiculously simple, giving a map to show exactly where to go, and having no unique mechanics other than simply running with infinite stamina as you grab the papers. Which would be fine, if it was a lot cheaper (namely "free"), [i]but[/i] as is it's no where near worth the asking price right now, or dealing with the obnoxious ads on the main menu. The original Slenderman game is free, and even offers alternate modes and unlockables, has unique mechanics with the flashlight and stamina meter, and an enemy that is tricky to understand and avoid.
